DISPLAY-CARD surronr.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13, 1919.
Application filed December 17, 1917. Serial No. 207.434.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I J osErH A. linrrrmus, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Norwood, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display- Card Supports, of which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is to produce an improved support for display cards, which will be positively and automatically locked in its card-supporting position upon having its supporting element brought to this position.
This and other objects are attained in the card support described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is a back view of the card sup port in its folded condition.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back of a display card, shown fragmentally, showing the card support disclosed in Fig. 1, but in its card supporting position.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the support taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
My improved card support consists of a single piece of card board cut to the shape shown in Fig. 1, and having the tongue 1 extending from the main portion 5 of the support, and adapted to be bent back upon itself as will be hereinafter more fully explained. Main portion 5 consists of a card attaching strip 6 having a substantially triangular supporting portion 7 attached to and distinguished from the strip by a line of scoring 8. Support 7 is provided with a slot 9 therein for the reception of the end of tongue 4: and after it has been bent back upon itself as disclosedin Fig. 1. Slot 9 is of the shape disclosed in full and dotted lines in Fig. 1 and has two shoulders 10 and 11 adapted to be engaged by notches 12 and 13 respectively when the triangular portion 7 is folded at right angles with relation to the attaching strip 6. In order to cause the tongue to bring its notches 12 and 13 into engagement with shoulders 10 and 11 when the support is folded, the bent back portion of the tongue is attached to that portion adjacent to the attaching flap by means of a staple or similar fastening device 14. This causes the tongue to act as a spring so that when part 7 is folded to the position disclosed in Fig. 2, the tongue will be bent away from strip 6 and acting as a spring,
. will cause its notches 12 and 13 to engage It will thus be seen that in my improved card support I have provided means for supporting a display card which cannot be readily collapsed by accidentally knocking it or by any tendency of the parts to unfold after having been folded. In addition to these advantages I have provided a support which may be folded to support a display card attached thereto, Without thought as to the proper arrangement of flaps or other devices provided for holding the support in its card supporting position. Furthermore, I have provided a, card support which after having been folded to its card supporting position, may be unfolded with as little difliculty.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
1. A display card support consisting of a card-attaching strip adapted to be secured to a card to be supported, a supporting portion adapted tobe folded at an angle to the strip to support the card attached thereto, and a spring tongue attached to the strip adapted to spring into locking engagement with the supporting portion when the por tion is moved to card supporting position.
2. A display card support consisting of a card-attaching strip adapted to be secured to a card to be supported, a supporting portion adapted to be folded at an angle to the strip to support the card attached thereto, and a tongue attached to the strip, said tongue being folded back onto the strip and secured in the folded position, and said supporting portion having a shouldered slot therein adapted to receive the tongue, whereby the portion when folded will flex the tongue and permit it to spring into engagement with the shoulders to retain the portion in its folded position.
3.'A display card support consisting of a card-attaching strip adapted to be secured to a card to be supported, a supporting portion adapted to be folded at an angle to the strip to support the card attached thereto, and a notched tongue attached to the strip, said tongue being folded back onto the strip and secured in the folded position, and said In testimony whereof, I have hereunto supporting portion having .a shouldered subscribed my name this 14th day of De 1.0 slot therein adapted to receive the tongue, cember, 1917.
whereby the pontion when folded will flex the tongue and permit it to spring into engagement with the shoulders when its notches register therewith, to retain the portion in its folded position.
