Description

,Jun Z1925. I 1,510,556
W. K.. LAURIE I CARD HOLDER Filed April 25, 1923 Inventor Patented June 2, 1925.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM K. LAURIE, OF ALBANY, NEW,YOR-K.
CARD HOLDER.
Application filed April .25, 1923.
To ail "LC/710771 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, lViLLIAM K. LAURlE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented new and useful Ii'nprovements in Card Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein. The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and convenient means for displaying price cards and the like by means of my improved card-holder.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a price card supported below the level of the shelf by means of my improved card-holder.
Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the cardholder detached.
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, 1 is a shelf adapted to support merchandise of various kinds.
My improved card-holder is formed of a single piece of wire bent to the form shown in Fig. 4, the opposite ends of the wire forming upper spring jaw members, 2, connected by vertical members, 3, with lower jaw members, 4, the latter being preferably in the form of loops as shown.
The inner legs of the loops, 4, are connected together by an M-shaped member, 55, 6, in substantially the same vertical plane with the vertical members, 33.
The outer legs of the loops, 4, are connected with the respective uprights, 3, by spring-coils, 7.
The jaw members, 2, and the loop jar members, 4, are spaced apart so as to yieldingly engage and clamp between them the Serial No. 634,468.
shelf.
The M-shaped member, 55, 6, has two in loops, 55, opening in one direction, and the loop, 6, opening in the opposite direction. The loops, 4, extend at right angles to the plane of the M sha'ped member while the uprights, 33, are in the same plane with the said M-shaped member, and the jaw members, 22 are substantially parallel with the respective loops, 4-4.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the cardholder is mounted upon the shelf with the loops, 55 extending upwardly and the loop, 6, extending downwardly directly in front of the shelf, while the vertical members, 3, also extend directly in front of the shelf.
The holder may be mounted upon the shelf in inverted position if desired.
When it is desired to display a price mark above the level of the shelf, the price card, 8, is forced downward between the loops, 5-5 and the front edge of the shelf as shown in Fig. 2, the card if of sufficient length occupying a position in front of and partly concealing the vertical members, 3-3.
When it is desired to display the price mark below the level of the shelf either with respect to the goods upon said shelf or with respect to goods upon a lower shelf, the
card is forced upwardly between the loop,
6, and the front edge of the shelf as shown in Fig. 3, in which position the card covers and partly conceals the outer members of the loops, 55, and the vertical members, 3-3.
If desired, two cards may be mounted in the holder, one extending above the level of the shelf, and the other below the level of the shelf.
In using the device, the holder is forced over the front portion of the shelf until the shelf is yieldingly engaged by the two pairs of spring-jaws, 22 and 4-4, and the card is inserted back of the loops, 55, or back of the loop, 6, as may be desired, or two cards may be inserted, one back of the loops, 55 and the other back of the loop, 6.
Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A card-holder formed of an integral piece of wire having a middle M-shaped cardholding member, loops extending from the respective legs of the M-sh-aped member at right angles to the plane thereof, members extending upwardly from said respective loops on opposite sides of and substantially in the plane of said M-shaped member and l terminating in jaw members parallel with and cooperative with the respective loops. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of April, 1923.
WILLIAM K. LAURIE.
