LABEL AND TAG HOLDING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED IV. HOLMAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Columbia, Richland County, State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label and Tag Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to label and tag holding devices and particularly to devices of this character intended for use in stores to detachably retain advertising cards or price tickets.

The object of the invention is to provide a card or ticket holder of this class designed particularly with the end in view of supporting a price ticket or card at the edge of a shelf, partition or box in such manner that the nature or price of the goods in the box or on the shelf is apparent. The device is so designed that a price ticket or other, card may be held in either a horizontal or vertical position as desired, whether the support to which it is attached is a horizontal shelf, a vertical board or partition, or vertical partition with horizontal edge.

In the accompanying drawings one form of the invention is illustrated by way of ex ample. In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a view of the ticket holding device on the edge of a horizontal shelf;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same as attached to a board or shelf arranged in a vertical plane but having a horizontal edge;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device attached to a vertical partition; and

Figure 4 is a sectional view of the ticket holder.

The ticket holder comprises essentially a body 10 formed preferably of resilient sheet metal, which member is U-shaped, having a base 10 and parallel legs 11, 11, to fit around the edge of a board, box, shelf, partition, etc. It is so formed that'before being applied to a box or partition the legs of the U-shaped body are inclined toward each other as shown in Figure 4 so that when it is applied it will securely clamp the member to which it is so applied. The ticket holding members are three in number and comprise Serial No. 676,184.

11,12 and 13 respectively which are struck up from the body of the metal itself.

These retaining tongues are resilient and adapted to detachably, but nevertheless securely, hold a card or ticket of metal, paper, paste-board, etc., which may be inserted thereunder. Such tickets are illustrated in dash lines in the drawings and indicated by the numeral 14. It will be seen that the tongue 11 has its free end toward the rear of the clip, the tongue 13 having its free end directed away from the reader (Figure 4) and the tongue 12 has its free end directed toward the right. This arrangement is such that a card may be arranged either vertically or horizontally whether the clip be attached to a vertical partition or a horizontal shelf. The possibilities of the invention are shown in the drawings and it will be apparent that by properly attaching the clip to the shelf or partition a resilient tongue may be so positioned that the card will be held in the position that is most conspicuous.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is: p

1. In a card or ticket holder of the class described, a U-shaped clip member of resilient material attachable to the end of a shelf or partition, and resilient tongues struck up respectively from the base and legs of the U-shaped member whereby the card may be supported in a plane parallel or at right angles to the plane of the supporting member.

2. In a card or ticket holder of the class described, a U-shaped'clip member of re silient material attachable to the end of a shelf or partition, and a resilient tongue struck up from the base and from each leg of the U-shaped member, the free ends of said tongues being directed in different directions, at least one such tongue being di rected at right angles to the plane of the U-shaped member.
