Description

F. P. MA THEs;
'TAG HOLDER. APPLlCATiON FILED .IYUNE 30,1915.

FRANK P. MATTHES OF VIOLA, WISCONSIN.
TAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1916.
Application filed June 30, 1915. Serial No. 37,326.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK P. MATTHES, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Viola, in the county of Richland, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled 1n the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to tag holders, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character havlng an interchangeable card for receiving the address of a customer, said tag being adapted particularly for attachment to boxes or crates containing articles to be dellvered in a local territory.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tag holder having means for clamping the carbon copy of a sales slip so that the customer will receive the same When the goods are delivered.
With these and other objects in View, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is'a sectional View on line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a similar View on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
The holder consists of a plate 1, formed from suitable sheet metal and having its longitudinal edges terminating in overhanging flanges 2, which in conjunction with the plate 1 provides guides 3. Theflanges 2 terminate in outwardly bent flanges 4, which are pressed flush against the flanges 2, and have their edges terminating in downwardly extending flanges 5, the edges of which extend beyond the plane of the plate 1, thus providing protection for the spring loop 6, which has its arms extended through the perforations 7 of the plate. The free ends of the arm loops terminate in hooks 8 which engage over the adjacent edge of the plate 1.
It will be noted that the coils 9 of the loop arms prevent the same from moving in one direction, while the hooks 8 prevent movement in another direction, said hooks also serving to limit the sliding movement of the direction card 10 from sliding from the guides 3 in one direction. 7
The card 10 may have printed thereon the merchants name and is provided with a space upon which the customers name is to be written. It will be of course understood that after each delivery a new card will be substituted.
The loop 6 is designed to hold a carbon of a sales slip, which may be readily removed by the customer.
One end of the plate 1 is tapered, as at 11, and has formed therein a perforation 12 in which is secured a wire 13, which serves as means for attaching the tag holder to the goods.
VVha-t is claimed is A tag holder comprising a body plate, having its longitudinal edges terminating in overhanging flanges which form in conjunction With the plate spaced guides, a loop having coils formed in its arms, said arms passing through the plate and having hooks formed upon their ends for engaging one end of the plate, said coils and hooks serving to prevent movement of the arms in either direction, and a card slidable in the groove and having its movement limited in one direction by the hooks, flanges extending at right angles to the plate and having their free edges extending beyond the plane of the loop, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK P. MATTHES.
Witnesses ROBERT PARKER, M. D. MASTEN.
