JOSEPH R. GRINSFELDER, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
LABEL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 616,312, dated December 20, 1898. Application filed June 10, 1897. Serial No. 640,139. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,JosEPH R. GRINSFELDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at S pokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in label-holders of that class designed to be applied to a box and 0011- sisting of a sheet-metal device having jaws to engage the edge of a box and a portion to hold a label; and the novelty resides in the peculiar construction of the holder, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a cigar-box with the cover thrown back upon the rear side of the box to hold the same in an inclined position and showing my invention applied thereto, and Fig. 2 a perspective view of the complete device as detached from the box.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures of the drawings.
My improved device is formed of a single piece of suitable sheet metal; and it consists of two downwardly-projecting arms or members A A, arranged at right angles to the sustaining cross piece B and formed integral therewith in such manner as to provide the necessary space between the two arms to accommodate the parts of the box to. be clamped or held therein. Projecting upwardly at a suitable angle from the lower end of the arm A, and also formed integral therewith,is provided an arm O, which is slotted, as shown at c, to receive and hold the lower edge of a display card or label.
The slitted portions formed at the upper end of the arm 0 are preferably longitudinally struck up from the blank of metal and are outwardly and upwardly bent in a plane parallel with the upturned arm O, leaving a slight space intervening between the latter and the said slitted portions.
In the operation of my invention the lid or cover D of the box or case E is thrown back against the rear side of the said box or case and the arms A A of the clip or holder slipped into position over the edges of the same, as shown, to maintain and hold the box at an angle to exhibit the contents and render them readily accessible, the display or price card being easily adjusted in position within the slotted portion of the arm 0, as fully shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing description it will be observed that the device is capable of ready attachment and combines inits construction a high degree of simplicity, cheapness, and general efficiency for the purpose contemplated.
It is deemed important that the arm 0 extend at such an angle from the rearmost arm A that it will stand vertically when the holder is appliedto a box in an inclined position and the label thus held perpendicularly, so that it can be more readily seen.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is- As an improved article of manufacture the label-holder herein described the same being formed of a single piece of sheet metal bent to form parallel arms A and A and the rightangled connecting portion B at the upper ends thereof and an arm G extending from the lower end of the rearmost arm A at an acute angle thereto and its upper free end slitted vertically to form spring portions for holding a label, with the center spring portion bent forward and thence parallel with the side spring portions to form vertical labelholding arms whereby the parallel arms may be made to engage over the upper edge of a box and its hinged cover with the latter turned back and the box held in an inclined position JOSEPH R. GBINSFELDER.
