CARD-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 20, 1915.
Application filed March 28, 1914. Serial No. 828,051.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. RoUsn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Card-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
y invention relates to improvements in card holders, and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device adapted to support a card in an approximately vertical position or somewhat inclined, such as price cards, display cards, photographs, and various other like devices, and it consists preferably of a strip of resilient metal or like material bent into triangular form with the respective ends overlapping, between which ends a card may be inserted and securely held, the card being supported in position by one side of the triangle, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention, with a card inserted therein and supported thereby; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with the card removed; and Fig. 3 is a perspective of a similar device on a larger scale, with lateral and foldable braces attached thereto.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
The embodiment of the invention herein shows a strip of resilient metal bent in triangular form having a base portion 1, a rear inclined portion 2 extending at an acute angle from one end of the base portion and above the same, and a front portion 3 extending from the upper end of the portion 2 downward to near the front end of the base portion and preferably resting thereon. The front end of the base portion 1 is bent upward and extends in front of the lower end of the portion 3 and is yieldably engaged thereby to grip the lower edge of a card inserted between these overlapping ends and resting against the front portion 3, as illustrated in Fig. 1. For the larger size I prefer to add lateral supports on the base and front portion as at 5 and 6, each being pivoted at the middle to turn parallel with the respective portions for convenience in storage or transportation, and when turned transversely as shown in Fig. 3, the support 5 serves to support the device in vertical po sition and the support 6 serves to extend behind the card and support the same from falling backward at the corners in the event the card is thin and flexible.
From the foregoing description the operation of the device is obvious without further explanation.
What I claim is 1. A card holder, comprising a strip of resilient material having a base portion to support the same, a rear inclined portion and a front inclined portion extending above the base portion, said base portion having an upturned end overlapping outer side of the lower end of the front portion and yieldably engaged thereby to grip a card therebetween and to permit the card to rest on the base portion.
2. A card holder, comprising a strip of resilient material bent in triangular form and having overlapping ends yieldably engaging each other at one of the angles to grip a card therebetween, and supports pivotally mounted on the holder.
3. A card holder, comprising a strip of flexible material having a base portion, a rear inclined portion and a front inclined portion extending above said base portion, an upturned end to the base portion overlapping the lower end of the front portion and yieldably engaged thereby, and supports pivotally mounted on the respective base portion and the front portion and adapted to fold parallel therewith.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature U1 presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. ROUSE.
