SAW-RACK.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN F. KNEoH- TEL, citizen of the United States, residing at Larned, in the county of Pawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Racks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates'to new and useful. improvements in display racks and more particularly racks for displaying wood saws and other objects of a similar nature, the object of my invention being the provision of a rack which will hold a number of wood saws in such a manner as to expose the teeth of all of the saws to view in order that a prospective purchaser may inspect the saws without the necessity of removing the same from the rack.

A further object of my invention is to provide a rack of the above described char acter which, when the saws are removed, may be folded to occupy relatively small space. And a still further object of my invention is to provide a rack so constructed that-the stock members, prices of the saws or other like information may be marked upon the rack.

With these and other objects in view, my invention will be more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically pointed out in the claims which are attached to and form a part of this application.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved rack in use; Fig. 2 is a perspective view without the saws; Fig. 3 is an elevation of the rack in folded position, the brace or plate being removed to more clearly show the manner in which the rack folds.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The preferred embodiment of my invention includes two symmetrically formed, spaced apart body members 10 and 11 substantially trapezoidal in shape, the inclined sides of these members being equal in length and extending at equal angles from the bases thereof. Each of these members consists of two equal symmetrically formed parts 12 and 13, each substantially triangular in shape, the parts being swingingly secured by hinges l t in such a manner that the Specification of Letters Patent. longer edges of the triangular portions form the inclined edges of the resultant trape- Zoidal side member.

The free end portions of the parts 12 are connected by a brace 15 secured to the inner edges by pivot pins or other suitable fastening devices 16, while the free end portions of the parts 13 are similarly connected by a brace 16 fastened by pivots 17. The inner portions of the parts 12 or of the parts 13, as the case may be, are also secured by a brace 18 connected to said parts at its ends by pivots 19. The outer ends of either the parts 12 or 13, as the case may be, are also secured by a brace 20, pivots 21 being passed through this brace and into the members to which it is fastened. This latter brace is preferably formed of sheet metal and rounded at its lower end as shownat 22, while its upper end is cut-away to provide a reentrant curved edge 23 giving a shield effect to the brace as a whole.

The body members 10 and 11 and braces 15 and 16 may be formed of wood, metal or other suitable material and in any desired size and proportion. The inclined edges of said members are cut-away to provide a plurality of successive steps 2% and the rear wardly extending faces of these steps are slotted as shown at 25 to receive the back edge portions of saw blades 26, the body of the blades resting upon the forwardly presented faces of the steps and the blades being held against tilting movement by their engagement in the slots 25.

In employing the device, the saws are mounted in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the back edge portions of the blades being seated in corresponding slots in the members 10 and 11 in such a manner that the blades are supported in vertical position one in advance of the other, each blade extending a little farther out to the side than the one immediately in front, because of the inclined arrangement of the steps. For this reason, the teeth of all of the saw blades will be clearly exposed to view and a prospective purchaser may readily inspect the saws without removing them from the rack. To facilitate this the brace strip 20 may have inscribed upon its outer face the trade numbers, prices or other like indicating marks for the various blades contained in the rack, these numbers being arranged in a certain series correspending to the arrangement of the blades in the rack. Instead of inscribing the numbers directly upon this brace strip the numbers may be placed upon tags and the tags glued or otherwise secured to the strip.

In use, the rack is hung in the manner shown in Fig. 1, either directly upon a wall or other support or in a show case, as preferred. When the rack is not in use, the portions 12 and 13 of the body member 10 and the portions 12 and 13 of the body member 11 may be swung together in the manner shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the pivotal arrangement of the braces readily permitting such movement. lVhen so folded the rack will occupy comparatively little space and may be readily store-d away or packed for shipment.

It will of course be understood that I do not wish in any way to limit myself to the specific details of construction, illustrated in the drawings and described in the above specification as various minor changes, may be made at any time, without in the slightest degree departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention What is claimed as new is: i

1. A saw rack including a substantially triangular shaped horizontally disposed body member adapted to engage by one edge against a wall and having its other edges cut-away to provide steps having lateral portions parallel to the wall, the rearwardly extending faces of the steps being slotted to engage saw blades seating against the lateral portions of the steps. V

A saw rack including a substantially triangular shaped horizontally disposed body member adapted to engage by one edge against a wall and having its other edges cut-away to provide steps, the rearwardly extending faces of the steps being slotted to engage saw blades seating against the lateral portions of the steps, said body member being hinged medially whereby its symmetrical side portions may be sWung upwardly at an angle to each other.
