PATENT @rrrcn.
ELIJAH A. WILCOX, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,003, dated April 12, 1904.
Application filed February 3, 1903. Serial No. 141,710. (No model.)
To wZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH ABBOTT VVILooX, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvemerits in Display-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in a display-cabinet provided with an inclosing casing with sides and front adapted to be turned outward and having removably mounted upon the inner portion of the sides of the casing a series of d isplay-frames formed of wire-cloth or equivalent material on which the merchandise to be displayed may be secured in' any suitable manner, and, further, the displayframes provided with means on their outer edge for holding a card or other index and also with means for defining the distance between the frames.
The object of my invention is a displaycabinet wherein various types of merchandise can be readily shown, the display-frames easily removed to replace or change the merchandise to be displayed, and the cabinet as a whole compact, of small cost, and arranged to be readily opened and closed and when 1 of the cabinet.
closed to protect the articles displayed from flying dust, moisture, &c.
The accompanying drawings will serve to illustrate my invention.
Figure l is a perspective view of the cabinetwith one side open. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through a closed cabinet. Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the display-frames, showing the means for attaching it to the side Fig. t is a plan view showing the tops of three frames and their relation to the side of the cabinet and bracket by which they are carried and also shows a device employed for defining the distance between the frames. Fig. 5 is a front View of one of the frames, showing the means employed for holding an index-card.
In the drawings, A indicates the base of the cabinet; -B, top; C, back; D, centrallyarranged partition which serves to support the top when both sides are open; E, sides hinged to the back; F, fronts hinged to the sides. Mounted on the sides E are. two sets of horizontal and parallel angle plates or brackets 6. These angle plates or brackets have holes H formed in them which are arranged equidistant. A
1 indicates the display-frames. The display-frames are preferably made with a metal rim J, in which is stretched wire-cloth K or any other suitable material. I prefer, however, to use wire-cloth, as it forms a good support for the merchandise to be displayed and also permits the employment of an ordinary metal paper-fastener as a means for securing the merchandise to the wire-cloth.
If desired, the rim J may be of wood or any other suitable material.
Projecting rearwardly from the rims J are the hooks L. These hooks are adapted to take in the holes H in the brackets Gr. Any other form of supporting device in place of the hooks L which will permit the frames to be swung about their point of support may be used.
Arranged over the front edge of the display-frames I are strips of metal M or other material bent or formed as shown in Fig. 4'
or otherwise to form sockets or slides N to receive an index-card O.
In order to define the distance between the frames where articles are mounted upon the faces of the frames and which it is desired should not touch when the frames are pushed together, there is pivotally mounted upon every third frame a shaped plate P, which plate is provided with a series of holes Q, arranged in the arc of a circle, in one of which is placed a pin R, which coacts with a hole T, formed in the top of the frame carrying the plate. By changing the position of the pin the angular relation of the plate to the frame may be altered, thus defining the distance between contiguous frames.
I wish it understood that I do not limit myself in any wise to any particular shape to be given to the cabinet or to the number of sets of display-frames which may be used, as it is obvious that many changes may be made without departing from the intent of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. A display cabinet comprising a fixed back, top and base, movable sides hinged to the back, movable fronts hinged to the sides, and a number of vertically-disposed displayframes mounted upon the inner surface of the sides.
2. A display-cabinet comprising a fixed back, top and base, movable sides hinged to the back, movable fronts hinged to the sides, and a number of vertically-disposed removable display-frames mounted upon the inner surface of the sides.
8. A display-cabinet comprising, a base, a back, a top, a centrally-disposed partition, sides hinged to the back, fronts hinged to the sides, and a number of removable displayframes pivotally mounted on the inner surface of the sides of the cabinet.
4. A displaycabinet comprising a fixed back, top and base, sides hinged to the back, fronts hinged to the sides, bracket-supports mounted upon the sides, and a number of movable display-frames carried by said bracketsupports.
5. A displaycabinet comprising a fixed back, top and base, sides hinged to the back, display-frames hinged upon the inner surface of the sides, together with means for determining the distance between the displayframes when closed.
6. A cabinet provided with hinged sides cooperate with said brackets on said sides, and
permit the display frames to be separated when the sides are opened.
9. A cabinet provided with hinged sides adapted to be extended on each side thereof, a plurality of hangers pivotally mounted on said sides, together with fronts hinged to the sides.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ELIJAH A. WVILCOX.
