HAMBLIN. FOLDING PLANT STAND.
No. 485,627. Patented Nov. 8, i892.
f PATENT Fries.
FLOYD HAMBLIN, OF MOHAVVK, NEW YORK,
FOLDING PLANT-STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,627, dated November 8, 1892. Application filed May 26, 1892. Serial No. 434,464. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it. known that I, FLOYD HAMBLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mohawk, in the county of l-Ierkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Plant-Stands; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked there on, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding plant-stands; and it has for its object to provide a stand of the character described which will be inexpensive in construction and at the same time will be both ornamental and serviceable. The device is so constructed as to permit of its being folded within small compass when not in use and when in use will present a series of shelves arranged at different horizontal planes, beifig in this respect similar to the flower-stands which are in common use.
To these ends, and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the peculiar construction and in the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, like letters of reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, and in which drawings- Figure l is a perspective View of a flowerstand embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 is an edge view of the same folded.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate the uprights of the main frame of the stand, which uprights are connected at their rear edges by the bars or strips B and B, the bar B being placed at a point near the lower ends of the uprights and the bar B attached to the extreme upper ends of the said uprights, with the upper edge of the said bar extended a short distance above the ends of the same, as shown at a,and to the upper edge of this bar is hinged the rear edge of the upper shelf D, which shelf when in position foruse bears directly upon the upper ends of the uprights, as shown.
away, as shown, to form a series of shoulders E E, which shoulders form a bearing for the inner ends of the arms E, which arms are hinged at their inner ends to the front edges of the standards A and carry at their outer ends the shelves D.
G G are braces, which at their upper ends are pivoted to the inner faces of the uprights at their extreme upper ends, and at proper intervals the braces are connected by cross-bars H, which serve both to strengthen the frame and also as supports for the shelves when the stand is in use, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
I is a rectangular frame, the side bars J of which at their forward ends are pivoted to the inner faces of the braces G, while at their rear ends they are provided with notches K K, adapted to engage the bar B and serve to hold the parts of the stand firmly in position when the stand is in use. 7
It will be readily seen that when the stand is not required for use by disengaging the notches'K of the bars J from the bar B the frame I may be folded upward, thus permitting the braces G to be folded inward between the standards A A, and the arms carrying the shelves may be folded upward, thus rendering the stand compact and permitting it to be stored within a very limited'space for convenience either in storage or in transportation.
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described folding plant-stand, the same comprising, in combination, the standards, recessed as described, the shelf-sup- The front edges of the uprights A A are cut porting arms, hinged to the standards Within all arranged and operating substantially as the recesses, the shelves carried by said arms, shown and described. I I0 the braces G, pivoted at, their upper ends to In testimony WhereofI affix m y slgnatnre 1n the inner faces of the upper ends of the standpresence of two Witnesses.
ards, the bar 13, connecting the rear edges of FLOYD IIAMBLIN. the standards, an d the frame I, having its side \Vitnesses:
bars pivoted atone end to the braces and its IL II. HAMBLIN,
opposite ends notched to engage the bar 13, E. J. COOK.
