Description
(No Model.)
I H. C. ALBRECHT.
STAND FOB DISPLAYING GOODS. No. 889,588 Patented Sept. 18. 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CHARLES ALBRECHT, OF TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA.
STAND FOR DISPLAYING GOODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 389,536, dated September 18, 1888.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY CHARLES AL- BREOHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute,in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stands or Racks for Displaying Dress Goods, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a stand or rack for displaying dress goods, &c.; and it has for its object to provide a device which will support the roll of silk, satin, or other goods, and at the same time display a loose end thereof for the inspection of customers. It is usual to arrange the rolls on a counter or table and twist the loose end thereof to form a pyramid on the roll; but when this method is followed the goods are liable to receive creases, (especially should a weight be placed on the pyramid,) and it is therefore objectionable.
My invention consists in a certain novel construction and combination of devices, fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with a roll of dress goods arranged thereon to indicate the manner of using the support or rack. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the stand or rack relieved of the roll. Fig. 3 is a vertical central sectional view showing different positions of the stand or rack when the different legs are employed. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device as seen when folded, in which the back of the stand or rack with the legs folded therein is shown.
Referring to the drawings, a designates the frame, which is provided on the front side with the side flanges, b b, and on the rear side with the similar flanges,c c, and d represents a horizontal bar arranged across the lower end of the frame between the downwardly-extended ends of theside flanges above mentioned. This bar projects in front and in rear of the'back 6, thereby forming flanges similar to those at the sides of the frame.
It will be seen that a slot, f, is formed between the lower edge of the said back and the bar, and its object is to allow the dust which accumulates on the bar to pass out at the back of the frame.
The legs 9 g comprise the side arms, h h, and
the cross-bars k k, and the upper ends of the side arms are pivoted to the rear flanges, c 0, near their upper ends. These legs when folded close within the flanges cc and against the back e, and either leg may be extended to support the frame at an inclination without disturbing the others. Any desired number of legs may be employed, (two only being shown in the drawings,) and they are of different lengths, to enable the frame to be arranged at any desired inclination.
In use, the roll of dress goods is placed in front of the frame between the side flanges and resting on the bottom bar, and the loose end of the roll is twisted or wrapped around the stand or rack so as to support it in the form of a pyramid.
It will be seen that the frame containing the roll may be moved at will and carried any desired distance without disturbing the arrangement.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a show stand or rack, the combination, with the frame, comprising a back, e, the side flanges affixed to the edges of the back and extending below its lower edge, and the bottom bar, d, affixed to the lower ends of the said flanges and removed slightly from the lower edge of the back 6 to form a slot, f, to allow dust and dirt which collect on the bottom bar I to escape, of the legs pivoted to the rear side of the frame, substantially as specified.
2. In ashow stand or rack, the combination of the frame comprising the back 6, provided with side flanges, b and c, on its front and rear sides, respectively, and the bottom bar, d, secured to the dependinglower ends of the side flanges, and the foldinglegs g g,pivoted to the inner sides of the rear flanges, o, and adapted when folded to be received between the same and protected thereby, substantially as specified.
3. Ina show stand or rack, the combination, with the frame provided with the rearward-extending side flanges,c c, of the folding leg g,pivoted at its upper end to the inner sides of the said flanges and adapted to fold between the same, and theshorterleg, g, mounted on thesame pivotsas the leg 9 and adapted to fold within the leg 9, and be protected by the side flanges, the
said legs being adapted to be independently em ployed to support the frame at differentinelinations, substantially as specified.
4. The herein-described stand or rack, comprising the back 0, provided with the front and rear side flanges, Z) and 0, extended below the lower end of the back, thetransverse bard, affixed to the lower ends of the said extensions of the flanges, the leg g,having the side arms,hh, pivoted at their upper ends to the inner sides of the rear flanges and connected at their lower ends by the bar Ia, and the leg 9', having the side arms, h h, pivoted at their upper ends to theinner sides of the arms h h, respectively, and connected at their lower ends by the bar 15 k, all constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as and for the purpose specified. In testimony thatIclaim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY CHARLES ALBRECHT. Witnesses:
