Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntedsept 30, 1 919;
Application filed May 9, 1917. Serial No; 167,545.
T 0 aZZ'wlwm it may concern:
Be it known that LJOHN NOZISKA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colonic, in the county of Tripp and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Markers and Dividers for: Merchandise; and do hereby declare-the following'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the'invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and'use the same.
This invention relates to markersand dividers and more particularly to markers and dividers especially adapted for use in a general store.
An object of the invention isthe provision of, means for dividing one class of merchandise from the other and'to provide means for designating each class.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for dividing one customers grocery order from another to prevent the two orders from becoming confused or mixed.
Another object of the invention is. the provision of means for removably attaching the customers order list directly to the divider, so that the same will not be lost or mislaid.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means for dividing different classes of merchandise positioned on store shelves from each other.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a marker and divider for general store use that will be economical to manufacture, durable in construction and can be sold at a comparatively small sum.
iVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates a perspective View of the improved divider and marker,
Fig. 2 represents a cross sectional View taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a slightly modified form of the invention, and
Fig. 4 represents a detail cross sectional View taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail where in similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the" several views, the numeral 1 indicates theinrproved customers grocery divider as whole and the same consists of a central vertical plate 2' preferably formed of metalhaving end" supporting feet '4 forme'd by slitting the metal plate and bending the same at right angles to the plate 2 in onedire'ction as at 8, and a central supporting foot 5 formed by bending the central section of the sl it'- portion at right angles totlie' plate 2i1i a" direction opposite tothe end supporting feet 4.
The vertical plate 2" has-"secured-on eacli side thereof spring clips Gand- Teach formed of a single piece of wire. Tlie elips-(i anel'z are of approximately .U-Shaped formation andhave the leg portions thereof bent" to form spring coils 8 which normally hold the bodies of the clips 6 and 7 in engagement with the vertical plate 2. The terminals of the clips 6 and 7 are looped as at 9 and receive suitable fastening elements 10, which extend through the vertical plate 2 and hold the clips in position.
In use the improved customers grocery divider is placed on the floor or store counter and the groceries belonging to the difierent orders are piled up on each side of the divider and the vertical plate 2, supported by the feet 4L and 5, prevents the two orders from getting mixed. The spring clips 6 and 7 support the order lists and prevent the same from getting lost or mislaid, and hold the same so that the clerk or clerks filling the orders can refer to the same at any time.
Figs. 3 and L represent a slightly modified form of the divider and marker and the same consists of a central vertical plate 11 having the lower portion thereof bent at right angles to form one side 12 of a supporting base 13. A plate 14, having a right angular portion 15 secured to the central plate 11 by means of suitable fastening elements 16, forms the opposite side of the supporting base 13 and with the portion 12 holds the vertical plate 11 in correct position.
The side 12 of the supporting base 13 is extended beyond the vertical plate 11 as at 16 and has the forward end thereof bent to form a right angular portion 17 to which is secured a card holder 18 constructed of a back plate 19 and inwardly extending flanges 20. As will be noted, the flanges 2O the vertical plate 11 as at 21 and has its forward end bent to form a right angular portion 22 to which is secured a card holder 23 having a base plate 24; and inwardly extending flanges 25.
- In use the improved merchandise marker and divider is positioned on V the shelf and one Class of merchandise is positioned on one side of the vertical plate 11 and another class V of merchandise is positioned on the other side. Suitable cards 26 are positioned in the card holders 18 and 23, and designate the class of merchandisepositioned on each side of the vertical plate 11. The angular portions 17 and 22 engage the edge of the store shelves and prevent the marker from being pushed to the rear of the shelf and hold the cards-Yin correct position'so that they can be easily seen and read.
I What I claim as new is z? V A merchandise marker and 'divide'r'coinprising a vertical dividing plate, outwardly extending flanges formed on the lower longitudinal edge of the plate and extending for equal distances on both sides of the plate to form a supporting base disposed at right per and lower edges with retaining flanges r extending transversely of the verticalsupporting element, said supporting element being spaced away from the dividing plate on each s de thereof whereby a marking card may be readily inserted in tlie'free end 3 thereof.
In testimony whereof I affiir my signature in presence oftwo witnesses. 7
