IINTTE STATES ATET OFFICE.
\VILLIAM RAMPE, JR, OF OTTAIVA, OHIO.
LABEL.
fiPEOIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,981, dated January 26, 1886.
(No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM RAMPE, J12, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ottawa, in the county of Putnam and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Label and Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to labels; and it consists in the improvements hereinafter set forth and explained.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a modification, of my invention.
A represents the body portion of my improved label and holder, which is preferably made of ornamented card-board or other flexile material, upon which is printed or otherwise placed emblems indicative of value. From the body portion A depends a tongue, 13, and side pieces, 0 0, between which tongue and side pieces are formed open slots D. The tongue B projects beyond the side pieces C G, and is pointed at its end.
The device hereinbefore described can be readily attached to an object by sliding the same over the object, so that the tongue will be on one side while the side pieces are on the other, the flexibility of the material from which the body portion, tongue, and side pieces are made permitting this adjustment, and at the same time binding upon the object placed in the slots, so as to hold the device in position.
The device hereinbefore described is designed especially for indicating the price of merchandise.
In Fig. 2 I have illustrated a modification of my invention, in which modification the body portion A is provided at its upper edge with slots d, which are designed tohold a pricecard, as shown.
The tags or indicators will preferably have an irregular ornamental outline, and will be decorated or printed to suit the requirements of the trade.
It will be observed that by forming the device of paper, as herein explained, itis easily, readily, and cheaply produced by any one.
By forming the tongue B of greater length than either of the side pieces, 0 t3, the tongue has an extended bearing against the outer face of the box or case to which it is applied, while the pieces 0 G, which are exposed on the display side of the box, are short and neat in appearance and occupy very little space on the interior of the box.
I claim- 1. A price-indicator for boxes and other receptacles provided with vertical sides, of a body made from card-board and provided in tegrally at its lower portion with a straight projecting tongue, adjacent to the upper portion of which are formed slots presenting a short side piece at either side of said tongue, substantially as shown.
2. In an indicating tag or card for boxes and other receptacles having straight vertical sides, ofabody made from card board and having figures or emblems printed thereon and provided at its lower portion with a downwardly-projecting straight tongue, adjacent to which are open slots presenting side pieces shorterthan the said tongue, the parts being formed integral with each other and from a single piece otmaterial, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM RAMPE, JR.
