UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES F. EMERSON, ()F WAKEFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
CARD-HO LDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,507, dated May 11, 1880.
Application filed March 16,1880. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. EMERSON, of Wakefield, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Im provementsin Gard-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for securing cards, tags, or labels to boxes containin g mucilagebottles, cigars, confectionery, or other small articles, where prices and names are desirable to be exposed to view.
This device consists of two frames laid alongside of each other and fastened together in a manner to enable one side of a box to be attached thereto at one side ofsaid fastening by placing such side of the box between the two frames, and to enable a card, tag, or label to be attached thereto at the other side of said fastening by placing such card, tag, or label between the two frames, all substantially as hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved card-holder used in connection with a box containing bottles of mucilage and a label or card showing the same and the name or title of the mncilage; Fig. 2, a face View of the card-holder itself; Fig. 3, an edge view; and Fig. 4, a cross-section on line at :r, Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A represents a card-board box containing bottles of mucilage B, my improved card-holder. This card-holder is composed of two frames, 0 O, which are made of wire, sheet metal, or other suitable material, and are laid alongside of each other and fastened together by clasps or soldering on opposite sides, as at (1, so as to leave the two frames at each side of said fastenings free to be opened from each other to receive at one side the side of a box and at the other a card, label, or tag, all as shown, andso as to have sufficient elasticity or spring to be secure against accidental detachment, while at the same time the holder can be readily attached to and detached from either the one or the other, as may be desired.
The card-holder herein described is made of wire, and it is preferable, for many obvious reasons, to so make it; but plainly it may be made of plates of metal.
Heretofore a spring-clasp has been stamped from a single piece of metal to form two springjaws from the body of the metal blank, and such is hereby disclaimed.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A label or card holder consisting of two independent and similar open frames, 0 0, arranged uponand parallel to each other, and their vertical portions centrally joined together, the remaining portions of the frame being unattached to each other and forming duplex spring clamping-jaws of equal size and shape, as and for the purpose described.
