To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, LOUIS DUNCAN J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising and Mailing Cards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved combination advertising and mailing card; and the object of my invention is the provision of a card of various shapes, designs, or forms and of ornamental and attractive appearance, which can be sold at a comparatively small price and which can be cheaply mailed and which will embody within itselfa peculiar and novel form of advertising means, thus producing a useful, desirable, and practical advertising novelty.
To attain the desired objects, my invention consists ofa combination advertising and mailing card embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device, the cover or flap being open and the continuous series of cards being drawn out partially. Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of the device, the flap or cover being open. Fig. 3 represents a central longitudinal sectional view, the flap being closed and the card in condition for mailing or distribution; and Fig. A represents an enlarged detail view of a form of clip for holding the continuous strip in place.
My combined mailing and advertising card comprises the card proper, A, which is preferably made of thick cardboard or, in fact, any suitably board, provided with the chamber or pocket B, which may be of various shapes, designs, or forms, and this chamber or pocket B is closed by the flap or cover O. Fitting within the pocket is the strip 1), folded or creased to provide a series of cards or advertising-blanks E, upon each of which and upon one or both faces may be printed or placed suitable advertising matter and matter from various firms, if desired, and the lower card of the series is either pasted within the pocket or the entire series may be secured by the flat spring-clip Fat one edge and by the clip G at the other edge, the said clip G having prongs H for engaging the strip and a lip J for engaging and securing the cover or flap when the device is closed and ready for mailing, as most clearly seen in Fig. 3, the card in this position being ready for mailing.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the upper spring-clip F is provided with teeth K for engaging the strip, and upon the flap O, I attacha card C, which also serves for the reception of any desired printed or advertising matter.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it is evident that I provide a card which can beproduced at a comparatively low price and which will carry the complete ad vertisement of one firm, or each card in the continuous strip may bear the card or advertisement of a number of concerns, and thus insure a distinct novelty in the line of an advertising medium andat the same time make the expense of advertising very cheap.
I claim- 1. A combination mailing and advertising card provided with a chamber or pocket, a flap or cover for closing said pocket, and a continuous strip folded to form a series of advertisement-bearing cards adapted to fit and be contained within said pocket, and clips for securing the continuous strip in said pocket.
2. A combination mailing and advertising card having a chamber or pocket, a flap or cover for closing said pocket, a card on the inner face of the cover, a continuous folded strip adapted to fit in said pocket, a clip secured to the card and adapted to secure the strip in the pocket and to fasten the cover or flap in closed position.
