COMBINED rosr-onan, CANDY-CONTAINER, AND MAIL-REoErrAcLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1915.
Application filed May 7, 1914. Serial No. 836,919.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SCHMIDT, a citizenof the United States, residin at Newark, in the cdunty of Essex and tate of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Post- Oard, Candy-Container, and Mail-Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined display post card, candy container, and mailmg receptacle, and has as its principal object the provision of an article adapted for use for all of the purposes mentioned which shall be cheap, convenient and readily manufactured. v
A further object of my invention resides in the particular arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described.
In the'accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is an end view of one form of my device showing the cover leaf partly open. Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the leaf fully open. Fig. 3 is a view of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2 in anentirely collapsed position. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of device shown in Fig. 1, illustrating "the use of my device for advertising purposes. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 30 2 in a fully opened position. Fig.6'is a perspective view of one end of the device shown in Fig. 1 when used as a container or holder. Fig. 7 is an end view in open position of a modified form of my device. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the device shown in l Throughout the separate views the same part is designated by the same reference character. 7 Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates, as a whole, my improved display post card andcontainer, which will be seen to be made from a single blank or piece of stiff cardboard or pa er. The original blank is of rectangular orm, somewhat 'longer than it is wide. I make a score across the width of the blank parallel to one edge and near the edge so as to form a flap such as 2. I then make four other scores on the face of the blank so as to markofi' two long sides and two short sides, the long thereon a picture.
sides being designated as 3 and 4, while the short sides are-designated as .5 and 6, re-
spectively. This operation will also provide a loose cover leaf 7 at the opposite end .of the blank from the flap 2. The blank is now bent at the scores so as to form a right parallelepiped and the flap 2 is glued or otherwise secured to the short side 6, the
cover 'leaf being designated as 7. Also the side 3 which I call the display leaf, is now perforated as indicated at 8 so as to disclose .a portion of the inner face of the side 4,
which I call the back and which may have It will be evident that by pressing lightly on the container, the same will be folded out flat so that the cover leaf will'comedown over the display leaf and entirely cover the same, together with the aperture therein. It will be obvious, moreover, that by adding a second leaf 9to the cover leaf, a small pamphlet 10 or the like may be inserted thus allowing'it to be 1 used as a display card and a descriptive circular.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 7 and 8, it will be seen that I have shown thereilfa modified form of my invention in which the side corresponding to the side 5 has been omitted. In this form, consequently, I have the-cover 7 the side 6, the flap 2, the side 3. and the side 4. It will be observed that the latter side is longer than the side 3 and when the cover is opened up as shown in Figs. 5 and 8, the slde 4' is forced into a curved position thus separating it from the side 3 and giving the same effect as when opening the cover 7 in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
If a small bagful of chocolates or the like be inserted into the device asindicated in Fig. 6, the same can be used,as a container. It will" be obvious also that the display leaf may be made of any'form desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A receptacle formed of a blank having transverse creases formed thereon dividing saidblank into a series ofsubstantially rectangular portions, alternate portions being the second, fourth and sixth portions forming the bottom, top and cover for said receptacle, said first and fifth portions lying in parallel planes adjacent said cover portion, serving to reinforce said receptacle,
said bottom portion having characters formed thereon, said top portion having an aperture formed therein whereby said char-
