MERCHANDIZING-PACKAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 10, 1919.
Application filed September 18, 1918. Serial No. 254,645.
. description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to merchandizing packages and has for an object to provide a package with improved means for serving the contents of the package.
A further object of the invention is to provide a package of the same general well known form as ordinary merchandizing packages having an auxiliary opening therein and an improved structure for serving the contents from the package.
A further object of the invention is to provide a merchandizing package having an auxiliary insert slot with a stop for limiting the inward movement of the flap and to serve also as an engaging member for opening the flap.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the package with the auxiliary flap partially ppened and shown entirely open in dotted mes.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1 with the auxiliary flap closed and shown open in dotted lines.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several vlews.
The improved merchandizing' package which forms subject matter of this application comprises a box like structure 10 of any usual and ordinary size and shape having one end closed in the usual manner. At the end opposite the permanent closure an insert flap is provided which after insertion in the completed package may be secured in such position by paste or the like.
An auxiliary flap 12 is provided in the specific structure shown being a severed part of the flap 11 forming a small opening at one corner of the box.
A member 13 is secured to the auxiliary flap 12 in such manner as to serve as a stop to prevent the auxiliary flap 12 from entering the box beyond the limit and also to be engaged by the thumb or finger nail at that part extending beyond the limits of the box to assist in opening the flap.
While the member 13 is shown and described as a separate member attached to the auxiliary flap l2 and is preferably so employed and constructed of a material relatively stiflfer than the material of the flap 12 it is obvious that it may be made integral with the flap 12 in which case only the extended portion will be additional to such flap. y
In operation the package is packed in the usual and ordinary manner through the open end after which the flap 11 is placed in position and secured if desired. The auxiliary flap 12 is then inserted slidably in position and the package is ready for marketing. To open the package the thumb or finger nail is placed under the extended portion of the member 13 and the auxiliary flap lifted to the dotted line position whereupon the box may be tilted and the contents poured out. Upon returningthe auxiliary flap to position the member 13 will serve as a stop to prevent the auxiliary being pushed too far into the 'box.
I claim:
1. A merchandizing package comprising a box like body having at one end a flap hingedly connected therewith, with a hingedly connected insert member at the side opposite the hinging to the body and a stop carried by said flap at one of the other sides positioned to limit the inward movement of 2. A merchandizing package comprising a box like body having a closure at one end divided to form an auxiliary flap hingedly connected at one side to the body and with an insert member at the side opposite the hinge and a stop carried by said auxiliary flap at one of the other sides positioned to limit the inward movement of the flap.
flap from 3. A merchandizing package comprising tion extending beyond the lines of the box a box like structure having one closed end from the auxiliary flap serving as a stop and the opposite end provided with an infor limiting the inward movement of the sertible flap, severed to form an auxiliary flap and as an engaging member for opening flap, one portion of said flap being inserted the flap. and secured in the box and the auxiliary In testimony whereof I affix my signature. flap adapted to be manipulated and a por- LOUIS J.
