Description

.am l5, 1924.
ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 15, 1924.
DAVID B. TSLER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
creannrrn casu'.
Application filed October 1, 1921. Serial No. 504,559.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I. DAVID B. TAsLER, a citizen of Russia, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements `in Cigarette Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a case for containing a standard size package of cigarettes and an object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case which is .constructed of a single piece of leather or analogous material and has a match carrying pocket-thereon formed by the stitching of a flap to one side of the body. the said Hap being cut to provide a normally closed opening to gain access to the matches contained therein.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cigarette case as specified which is simple in construction andl may be manufactured at a 'relativelylow cost. being cut in a single blank and arranged in such a manner as to provide a minimum amount of waste from the material used.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. l is a perspective -view of the improved cigarette case-showing it partly lopen.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the cigarette case showing it closed.
Fig. 3mis a view of the blank from which Athe case is made.
Fig. 4 is a section on theline 4.-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 Y;is a section on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the'drawing the improved clgarett-e case is formedof a single blank indicated at 1 which is cut from leather or suitable material and has sides 2 and 3 and edges 4, 5-and 6, the edges 4 and 6 overlapping when the case is assembled. The edges 4 and 6 are glued or otherwise suitably connected. The edges 4,
5 and 6 and sides 2 and 3 have scoring there across as indicated at 7 to permit their transverse folding to form the bottom of the case. Relatively small flaps 8 and 9 are formed on the top or upper edges of the edges 4 and 5 and they are adapted to be folded over as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing to artially close the open end of the case.
he side 2 has a relatively long extension 10 formed thereon which is'scored as shown at 11 and l2.` A clasp 13 is carried at the free end of the extenslon 10 and is adapted to cooperate with a clasp section 14 carried by the side 2 near its lower end for locking the extension 10 over the open end of the case to form a tight closure for the cigarette case. A fiap'or extension 15 is formed upon the upper edge of the side 3 and this extension is out in a semicircle as shown at 16 to provide a flap to permit access to the interior of the match carrying pocket formed by stitching the free edges of the extension 15 to the side 2. l'
A sheet 17 of abrasive material is carried by the inner surface of the extension 10 be- `ing attached thereto in any suitable manner such as by suitable guiding straps 18 and it is provided to facilitate the striking of matches.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be apparent that a, convenient,.easily carried cigarette casehas been provided which is designed to hold any standard size package of cigarettes as well as matches so that the latter will always be convenient for use and also a cigarette case which can be manufacturedat a relative lowjpricc owing to its manner of construction and connection of arts.
t is, of course. to be understood that the invention mav be constructed inl various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim'is:
In a cigarette case, a body including sides and edges. au extension flap formed along the upper edge of one of said sides and folded downwardly to engage the side. said extension flap being stitched to the side against which it engages for forming a match carrying pocket. said extension Hap being cut in scmicircle to permit access to the .interior of the pocket and form a closure for the opening in the pocket, a closing extension for the case formed upon the upper edge of the side opposite the extension Hap carrying side, said closure extension adapted to extend across one end and along the pocket carrying side of a case.
In testimony whereof I ax my si ature.
DAVID B. TA LER.
