This invention relates to a combined mailing and filing envelope and is designed primarily for the reception of cancelled bank vouchers, but it is to be understood that an envelope, in accordance with this invention ranged whereby the recipient thereof can use the same as an index file for filing purposes.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combined mailing and filing envelope which is simple in its construction 7 and arrangement, strong, durable, compact,

of parts as hereinafter more thoroughly eflicient in its use, expeditiously sealed or opened when desired, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement specifically described, and illustrated in the accomparaying drawings, wherein is shown an embo iment of the invention, but it is to be unde stood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scopeof the claims hereuntoappended.

Referring to Figure 7 of the drawin s which illustrates the blank from which tfie envelope is constructed, 1, 2 and 3 indicate a series of folds integral with each other. The folds 2 and 3 are of substantially the same length. The fold 3 is provided at one of its longitudinal edges with an extension 4 for the reception of index indicia. The extension 4 is provided on the free longitudinal edge of the fold 3. The free 1011- gitudinal edge of the fold 2 is inset as at 5 for the major portion of its length. The

When the envelope is employed for mailing purposes, it is in the position as shown in Figure 1.- The 8 is secured to the outer face of the fold 2 by the adhesive coating on the flap and the flap 11 is secured to the outer face of the fold 3 by the adhesive coating on the flap 11. The receptacle A is not only sealed, but the element C secured inposition. The envelope can be then used for filing purposes by the recipient as the receptacle A can have stored therein various documents and in the compartment B as well, and the element 0 can then be employed as a detachable closure for the com part-ment B as .well as to enclose the flap side of the receptacle A.

The modified form shown in Figure 8 is the same as that shown in Figure 1, with closing the top thereof,- a filing compartment I arranged at the back of compartment H and an outer sealing element J for the same purpose as the element C;

Each end of the receptacle H is formed of a pair of oppositely disposed folds 15, 16 and the bottomthereof is also formed by a pair of oppositely disposed folds 17, 18. The folds 15, 16, 17 and 18 permit of expanding receptacle H when desired. The receptacle H further includes front and rear walls provided by the folds 19, 20, respectively. The flap21 of the receptacle H extends forwardly from the top of fold 20. The fold 20 is integral at its lower .endwith fold18 and is formed at each end with a flap. 20 secured to the inner faces of folds 16. The fold 19 at its ends is integral with folds 15.

Fold 27 and flaps 21, 29 are scored or 32 respectively to provide readily severable portions. The severable portions of the flaps 21, 29 are indicated at 33, 34 respectively and are adapted to have the inner faces thereof coated material. The fold 28 is adapted to extend over the top of the receptacle H and compartment I when the sealing element is secured in sealing position, as is illustrated with respect to element C. .The receptacle H is provided with means 7 purpose as sealing as at H, H and H constructedandarranged similar to elements E, F and G for detachably securing flap 21 in closing position.

Referring to Figures 12, 13 and 14 the envelope includes a receptacle K similar to and for the same purpose as receptacle A, a filing compartment L similar to and for the same purpose as compartment B, and a sealing element M similar to and for the same element- C. The clifferences between the forms shown in Fig ures 12 and 2, is that the form illustrated in Figure 12 is set up from a two-section body portion whereas that shown in Figure 2 is constructed from a one-piece body portion.

The differences between the forms shown in Figures 15 and 9 reside in the setting-up of the form illustrated by Figure 15 from a two-section body portion, whereas in Figure 9 the body portion is of one-piece. One of the sections of the body portion of the form shown in igure 15 comprises the folds 42, 43, end

folds 44, 45, bottom folds 46, 47 and flaps 48 and 49 which correspond to folds 19, 20, 15, 16, 17, 18, and flaps 20 and 21 respectively. The folds 44 have extended therefrom a pair of flaps 50. The other section includes folds 51, 52, 54, 55, 56 and 57 corresponding to folds 22, 27, 25, 26, 28 and flap 29. The flaps 50 are secured to the outer face of fold 51. Gtherwise than as stated the form shown in Figure 15 is the same as that shown in Figure 9.

It is thought the many advantages of a combined mailing and filing envelope, in accordance with this invention can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be lunderstood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

W hat I claim is:

1. A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising a receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacle to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, and a sealing element connected to said means for overlapping the front of said receptacle, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means.

2. A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising a receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacle to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, and a sealing element connected to said means for overlapping the front of said receptacle, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means, said flap and element having sever-able adhesive portions for securing to the front wall of the receptacle and the rear wall of the compartment whereby said flap and element will be socured in sealing position.

3. A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising a receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacle to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, a sealing element connected to said means for overlapping the front of said receptacle, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means, said flap and element having severable adhesive portions for securing to the front wall of the receptacle and the rear wall of the compartment whereby said flap and element will be secured in sealing position, and said flap and receptacle having coacting means for detachably connecting the flap in closing position when the adhesive portion of the flap has been separated therefrom.

A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising a receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacl'e'to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, a sealing element connected to said means for overlapping the front of said receptacle, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means, said flap and element having sever-able adhesive portions for securing to the front wall of the receptacle and the rear wall of the compartment whereby said flap and element will be secured in sealing position, said flap and receptacle having coacting means for detachably connecting the flap in closing position when the adhesive portion of the flap has been separated therefrom, and said element providing a closure for said compartment when the adhesive portion of said element has been severed therefrom.

5. A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising a receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacle to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, a sealing element connected to said means for overlapping the front of said receptacle, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means, and said means 'including an extension adapted to receive index indicia for said compartment.

A combined mailing and filing envelope comprising an open-top receptacle including a closure flap therefor, means connected with said receptacle to provide an open-top filing compartment at the rear thereof, and a sealing element for overlapping said flap, closing the top of said compartment and for securing to said means:
