` This invention relates to :a @container 'ttor u :cigarette package equipped with-adevice forutherewith slitting or opening the package retained therein, for the subsequent removal of the cigarettes from the package and container.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved article for the aforesaid purpose, which will be conveniently and economically manufacturable, saleable at low cost, strong, durable, reliable, and conveniently and efficiently utilizable.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a front elevational View of the cigarette package opener and container constituting the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of the container shown in Fig. 1, in a reduced scale.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross-sectional elevational view of the container, taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the container shown in Figs. l, 3.
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the container, showing it as it appears when in operative utilizable condition, after the slitting of the cigarette package therein.
Fig. 6 is a plan view, in a reduced scale, illustrating the blank from which the cigarette opener and container is made.
The container I, Figs. 1, 2, is initially made of a blank 2 of leather or other suitable pliable material, Fig. 6, which includes a median rectangular area 3 constituting the front wall of the container, areas 4 for its side Walls, areas 5 which together form the rear wall, areas 6, 'I for its top and bottom wall, respectively, a bottom ap 8, a top flap 9, and lateral flaps I 0, II. Astride its longitudinal centre line the blank 2 is provided with a slot I2, each rim I3 of which is equipped with a hookless fastener part I4 operated to open and close by a key I5 carrying a cutter I6. The container I is erected from the blank 2 by laterally folding the side walls 4 and rear wall areas 5 along score lines II in manner shown in Fig. 2, folding the bottom wall 'I and bottom flap 8 on score lines I8, securing the flap 8 to the rear wall areas by rivets I 9, with the lateral naps I0 folded inwardly as shown, whereby there is created an interior receptacle 2IJ for thereinto inserting a usual cigarette package 2|, closeable by bending thereover the lateral flaps I I, top wall E, and top flap 9 as shown. The top Wall 9 is locked to the rear wall 5, by snap fasteners 22 carried by the (C1. cee-4115,)
-orm'er engaging cooperating members 23 of the latter. When `the `container' jI "is thus in erected condition, its slot I`2 extends from Athe intersection of its top wall 6 with the rear wall 5, across said wall, across front wall 3, and across bottom Wall 'I, which slot is openable and closable by the hookless fastener parts I4 oper-able by the key I5, and when the latter is actuated to fully open the slot I2 the container becomes converted into two half-members 1a, Fig. 5, that are openable away from each other and hingedly held together by the median portion of the secured flap B which is in registry with the meeting line 5a of the rear flap wall portions 5.
In utilizing the container I, the key I5 is initially brought over to the lower position shown in Fig. 1 to securingly close the half-members I a, then the naps 9, I I are opened as shown in Fig. 2 for insertion of the cigarette package 2I within the receptacle 20, and then the ap 9 is locked to the rear Wall 5 by the fasteners 22, 23. Thereafter, the key I5 may be completely actuated from the position in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 3, in which stroke its cutter I6 slits the package 2| into two halves 2I a and permits the free opening of the container` members Ila therewith, for convenient removal of the cigarettes 2lb, in the manner illustrated in Fig. 5. After this initial slitting of the cigarette package 2|, the hookless fastener I4 and key I5 may be operated in usual manner for opening and closing the container I for retention and use of the cigarettes 2lb.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A container for a. cigarette package consistingr of a blank of pliable material folded to form a receptacle with an openable and closable fiap at the end thereof for inserting the package thereinto, means for locking said nap in close-d state, said receptacle having a median slit extending through said flap, through the front wall of the receptacle, and through the bottom. wall of the receptacle, to thereby form two half-members of the receptacle hingedly held to each other by the pliability of said material, each of said members carrying a cooperating part of a hookless fastener device, a key for opening and closing said device and container, and said key carrying a cutter projecting into the container for slitting open therewith the package upon the initial opening of the device.
2. A container for` a cigarette package comprising a receptacle with an openable and closable ap at the top end thereof for inserting the package thereinto, means for locking said flap in closed state, said receptacle having a, median slit extending through said ap, through the front Wall of the receptacle, and through the bottom wall of the receptacle, to thereby form two halfmembers of the receptacle hingedly held to each other, each of said members carrying a cooperating part of a hookless fastener device, a key for opening and closing said device and container, and said key carrying a cutter projecting into the container for therewith slitting open the package upon the initial opening of the device and container.
3. A container for a cigarette package comprising a receptacle with an openable and closable closed state, said receptacle having a median slit 4 swingable away from each other about a median line of the back wall of the receptacle, each of said members carrying at said slit a cooperating part of a hookless fastener device, a key for opening and closing said device and container, and said key carrying a cutter projecting into the container for therewith slitting open the package upon the initial opening of the device and container.
