This invention relates to a container having a book combined with its cover or forming its cover. The combination as a whole resembles a book. The container is especially adapted to hold 5 candy. Gifts of candy and of books are common. Readers, especially of feminine gender, are in the habit of eating candy when they read a book. A book combined with a box of candy is therefore a very acceptable and convenient novelty. My

construction is such that the binding of the book is combined with the container and forms a part thereof. The back of the book serves also as a false back for the container.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent upon further study of the description and drawing, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my box book in partially open position.

Fig. 2 is a cross section of my box book in closed position.

The container 5 is formed with a bottom 3 and sides 4 fastened thereto. The lid 6 of the container is fastened to flap 7 which is integral with the book binding 8. The leaves 9 of the book are fastened to binding 8 in the usual manner. The upper end of binding 8 is formed with a loop 1G' fastened to the upper book cover 11. Binding 8 is looped back on itself having a rear portion 12, the lower part of which is fastened to the rear side 4 of the container. The upper part of portion 12 is fastened to the portion of binding 8 in front of it either by stitching or glueing or both. v'I'he back 13 is fastened at its lower end to bottom 3 of the container and at its upper end to book cover 11. A stop 14 is provided inside the front side 4 of the container, to limit the downward swing of lid 6,

I claim:-

1. The combination of a container having a lid,

40 and a book coming over said lid, having leaves held by a binding, and an extension of said binding fastened to said lid for hingedly mounting said lid upon said container and the book.

2. 'I'he combination of a container having a lid and a book having leaves held by a binding,

the lid of said container forming a bottom cover for the book, and extension of said binding fastened to said lid for hingedly mounting same upon the container, and another extension of said binding fastened to the body of the container for hingedly mounting the book upon the container.

3. A book having leaves held in a flexible binding, said binding being of double thickness, the two thicknesses of the binding being fastened to each other, in combination with a container having sides, a bottom and a lid, an extension provided for one thickness of the binding fastened to the lid for hingedly mounting the lid 'upon the book and an extension for the other thickness of the binding fastened to one of the sides of the 7 container for hingedly mounting the container upon the book.

4. The combination of a container having sides, a bottom and a lid and a book having leaves held by a flexible binding, the lid of said container forming the bottom cover for the book, an extension of said binding fastened to the lid for hingedly mounting same upon the book and the container, said lid extending across the container, substantially for the full size of the container and a stop located near the front of the container for limiting the downward motion of the lid.

5. A book having a top cover and leaves held in a flexible binding in combination with a conminer having a lid, said binding being of double thickness at the leaves, the. two thicknesses of the binding being fastened to each other, the top cover being fastened to said binding at one end, an extension provided for one thickness of the binding at the end opposite to the top cover, said extension being fastened to the lid for hingedly mounting the lid upon the book to serve as its bottom cover, and an extension for the other thickness of the binding, also at the end opposite to the top cover, said latter extension being fastened to the container for hingedly mounting the book upon the container.
