CHARLES A. BOYER, 0F MARENGO, ILLINOIS.
RURAL-CARRIERS CABINET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Borne, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marengo, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rural Carriers Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a cabinet for the use of rural mail carriers which will hold his supplies such as stamps, registry blanks, post cards, stamped envelops and wrappers and money for change.
In the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cabi net in its open position. Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
The cabinet comprises the bottom 1, sides 2 and end 3. To the sides 2- near the upper corner of the end 3 is pivoted a cover t by the ears 5 projecting from the rear end of the cover. The front ends of the sides 2 are beveling being shorter at their upper edges. The cover 4 has asection 6 beveled to fit the beveled portion of the sides.
To the bottom 1 is secured a hasp section 7, and to the section 6 is secured another section 8 of a hasp. The section 8 of the hasp is provided with spring lips 9 between which the hasp section 7 is retained, when the cover is in its closed position. A handle 10 is secured to the cover at.
IVithin the cabinet are arranged horizontal partitions 11 and 12 suitably separated and each having an end 13 and 14 respec tively. A tray 15 is fixedly connected to the sides 2 and is located over the horizontal partition 12. To theunderface of the tray 15 is secured a plate spring 16 having its free end engaging the upper surface of the horizontal partition 12. To the underface of the horizontal partition 12 is secured a plate spring 17 having its free end engaging the upper surface of the horizontal partition 11.
To the rear edge of the tray 15 is pivoted or hinged a receptacle 18 having inwardly turned edges 19. A spring clamp 20 has one end connected to the bottom of the receptacle 18 and extends diagonally across the bottom thereof.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. April 20, 1908.
Patented Jan. at, 1910.
Serial No. 428,086.
In rear of the tray 15 and horizontal par tition 13, is located a money holder 21, in this instance in two compartments.
The spaces beneath the tray 15 are for post cards, and stamped envelope, and the vertical space formed by the vertical partition 21 is for news paper wrappers. The tube 22 forms a holder for a pencil. Underneath the partition 11 is for registry and money order receipt books.
The tray 15 is for postage stamps, and the hinged receptacle 18 is for money order application blanks which are held beneath the edges 19, and beneath the spring clamp 20. Money used for making change or sales is placed in the holder 21. The plate springs 16 and 17 hold any supplies placed on the horizontal partitions 11 and 12 against the partitions so that they will. not become dis-- engaged therefrom.
By hinging the cover 4 to the sides of the cabinet by the extended ears 5 allows the cover to assume a vertical position, and permits the rear end of the cover coming in contact with the rear end 3 of the cabinet, and acting as a stop.
I claim as my invention.
A rural carriers cabinet comprising a suitable casing, a cover for the casing having a hinge connection therewith through the medium of extended ears, a hasp connection between the casing and cover, spring lips for retaining the hasp in its closed position, a stationary tray supported within the casing, a cover for the tray having inturned edges, a spring bar connected to the upper face of said cover, a compartment located be tween the tray and the end of the casing, partitions located beneath the tray, and spring bars for some of the partitions and connected to the underface of said partitions.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES A. BUYER.
