and durable and in which a coin confining and a coin slot member will cooperate with a body member to provide walls of two thicknesses.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, and set forth in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor'details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit ofthe invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective View of a toy bank constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. l.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the coin slot member.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the coin confining member.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the, hollow body.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the toy bank, which is designed to be constructed of pasteboard, cardboard, or'other suitable material, comprises in its construction a hollow body 1, a coin receiving member 2, and a coin slot member 2. The hollow body, which is open at both ends, is composed of connected walls and is preferably rectangular, being composed of four sides, two of the sides being preferably wider than the others, but the form and proportion of the hollow body may, of course,
be varied, as .will be readily understood.
The coinconfining member consists of an approximately U-shaped body portion havingspaced vertical sides 3 andaconnecting horizontal bottom portion 4,- the sides being provided at their upper ends with overlapping extensions 5 reduced slightly at their ends at 6 to 'rovide a space. for the side portions 7 of tfib coin slot member. The coin confining member may be conveniently introduced in the hollow. bodygat the lower end thereof, and is preferably introduced in such manner, the horizontal connecting portion 4 .of the hollow member constituting the bottom of the bank. The sides3 of the coin confining member fit against the adjacent side walls of the hollow body and constitute with the same walls of double thickness. The extensions 5, which extend in: wardlyat right angles to the sides 3 and which are retained in such position by the resiliency of thegmaterial, have theiroverlapping portions located directly beneath a coin slot 8 in the connecting portion 9 of the coin slot member to prevent coins, after being inserted. in the box, from accidentally dropping through the slot when the toy bank isinverted or otherwise handled in a manner which might cause coins to drop from an unprotected coin slot. The extensions are adapted to separate when a coin is inserted, and they automatically resume their substantially horizontal position when the coin drops into the bank.
The coin slot member is composed of the said side 7 and'the connecting portion. 9, which ,is located at the upperends of the side, portions to form an approximately inverted U-shaped coin slot member. The sides 7 are slightly reduced in width to fit snugly between the sides ofthe coin confining member, and the latter is inserted in the body from the upper end thereof, afterwthe coin confining member has beenplaced in position, and when the coin confining -member and the coin slot member are inserted in the hollow body, thelatter is closed at the bot tom by the connecting portion f of the coin confining member and at the top or upper lapping flaps, the sides of the body end by the connecting portion 9 0f the coin slot member, and a solid substantial toy bank is thus provided, having members adapted to be easily constructed and quickly assembled.
After the members of the toy bank have been assembled they are retained in position by a thin covering 10 of paper or other suitable material designed to contain printed matter or other data relating to the purpose for which the toy bank is designed.
What is claimed is:
1. A toy bank comprising a hollow body open at both ends, a coin confining member composed of an approximately U-shaped body portion fitted within the said hollow body and closing one end thereof and provided at the other end of the body with overportion of the said member cooperating wit the corresponding walls of the body to provide walls of double thickness, and a coin slot member of approximately inverted U-shape having the free sides thereof fitted in the hollow member extending to the said closed end and arranged at right angles to the coin confining member to cooperate with the other walls of the body to form walls of two thicknesses, the connecting portion of the inverted U-shaped coin slot member closing the other end of the body and provided with a coin slot located over the said overlapping flaps.
2. A toy bank comprising a hollow body open at both ends, a coin confining member composed of an approximately U-shaped body portion fitted within the said hollow body and closing one end thereof and provided at the other end of the body with overlapping flaps, the sides of the body portion of the said member cooperating with the corresponding walls of the body to provide walls of double thickness, and a coin slot member of approximately inverted U-shape having the free sides thereof fitted in the hollow member extending to the said closed end and arranged at right angles to the coin confining member to cooperate with the other Walls of the body to form walls of two thicknesses, the connecting portion of the inverted U-shaped coin slot member closing the other end of the body and provided with a coin slot located over the said overlapping flaps, the said flaps being slightly reduced at their ends and the side portions of the inverted U-shaped member being reduced in width throughout their entire length to enable the members to interfit snugly within the hollow body.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this 15 day of September, 1931. PETER J. NAGLE.
