GIOVANNI BARAC, OF FALlDS CREEK, PENNSYLVANIA.
'ronacco nox To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GIOVANNI BARAC, a citizen of Austria, residing at Falls Creek, in the county of Jefferson and State of Penn sylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Boxes, of WhlCll the following is a specification;
This invention has reference to improvements in sheet metal ocket'tobacco boxes.
The object of the invention is to provide a sheet metal pocket tobacco box divided into a plurality of compartments, each separated from each other, so that in addition to to bacco, cigarette papers and matches may be conveniently carried in a single article.
The foregoing objects may be accomplished by a construction and combinat1on of parts, such as illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of a tobacco container constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view ap proximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fi 4 is a transverse sectional view approximately on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view approximately on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the cigarette paper container.
Fig. 7 is a similar view of the body constituting the match receptacle.
The tobacco box or container is indicated by the numeral 5 and is, in the main, of the ordinary construction, having one of its ends closed, its opposite end open and normally closed by a hinged flanged door 6. Above the bottom 7 there is arranged a false bottom 8 that provides the top of the match receptacle 9. The container 5, directly above the bottom, and almost for the full width thereof is provided with a rectangular cutaway portion 10 forming the entrance for the match receptacle.
The match receptacle is preferably construoted of a single sheet of metal including a back 11, sides 12 and top 8. The sides are rounded with respect to the top and with respect to the back so that the receptacle may be inserted into the container and the sides thereof frictionally contact with the rounded sides 13 of the container 5. If desired, the
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept 1921 Application filed July 3, 1919, Serial 170. 308,498; Renewed April 16, 1921.

tainer. The top of the match receptacle 8,
at the front thereof is provided with a central extension in the nature of a lip which is bent downwardly against the inner faceof the front of the container 5 and from thence upwardly over. the outer face of the said faceofthe-container. This last mentioned portion of the lip is indicated by the nu meral 15 and is rounded upon itself to provlde barrels which bind therein a pin 16. The door for the mouth of the match receptacle is indicated by the numeral 17 and has its upper edge provided with spaced ears 18 that are rounded upon themselves to provide barrels that receive the ends of the pin 16 arranged beyond the barrels 15. The barrels 18 also have their inner ends contacting with the barrels 15 provided by the 11p on the front edge of the bottom 8. The door is formed of metal and has at its lower edge a central tongue 19 that engages with the rlbbed lower edge of the receptacle 5, whereby to hold the door in closed position.
In the container 5 is the cigarette paper receptacle which is broadly indicated by the numeral 20. This receptacle is constructed of a single piece of metal, preferably tin having its lower edge and its sides flanged in the same direction, and the said flanged portions, especially those of the sides are provided with ears 21. These, ears pass through suitable slots 22 in the side of the container 5 and arebent over the outer face of the said side as illustrated in the drawings.
It is believed, from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings, the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be readily apparent without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a sheet metal box having the opening on its front at the bottom thereof, a receptacle arranged at its bottom having interengaging means with the box, and having an open front disposed opposite the opening in the box, a lip at the upper front end of the receptacle extended outwardly of the opening and contacting with the outer face of the box, a closer plate hingedly connected to the outer portion of the lip, and a spring tongue on the. plate to engage with the lower edge of the box.
2. A metal pocket tobacco box having a transverse opening adjacent to the bottom thereof, a plate in the box disposed above the opening, said plate having back and side flanges which engage with the back and sides of thebox, interengaging means between .the flanges contacting with the inner front face of the box and extended through the opening and bent to contact with the outer face of the box, the said last mentionedportion of thelip being rounded upon 7 itself toprovide barre1s,a pintle received in thebarrels, and extending therethrough, a
closer plate having its upper end provided with barrels to receive the ends of the pintle, and a spring tongue on the outer edge of the closer plate for engaging with the bottom of the box.
3. In a means for supplying the interior of a tobacco box with a match safe, the C0111- bination with a tobacco box having an opening adjacent one of its ends on one of the faces thereof, and its second face opposite the opening having indentures, of a casing having an open front, but including a top, sides and back arranged in the box and contacting with the walls thereof, and the open front of the casing being disposed to aline with the opening in the box, the back of the casing having indentures which engage with the indentures in the back of the box for holding the casing therein, a hinged door closing the front of the casing, and latching means carried thereby engaging with one end of the box.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
