Description

Aug" 112, 1924. moms? 1B. LEBWOHL MATCH HOLDING CIGAR OR CIGARETTE BOX Filed June 22 1922 VLIJ"" La nielbmom atente ug. T, R111 BENJAMIN LEJBWO'HL, OF NEW YORK, Y., ASSIGNCR 0F NIINDICH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ONE-HALF TO BENJAMIN Application filed June 22, 1922. Serial No. 570,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, BENJAMIN LEBWOHL, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Holding Cigar or Cigarette Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the small cartons or boxes in-which cigarettes and cigars are sold, and it has for an object to provide a novel form of box of this type arranged to contain also a supply of matches which are placed therein, at the time of packing.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, references will be had to the following description and accompanying'drawings, and to the appended claim in which thevarious novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a cigarette box embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view slightly modified form of box. 7
Referring now to the drawing my improved box comprises an outer rectangular shell 10, of cardboard or like material which is open at both ends to receive the inner member in which the cigarettes and matches are carried. The inner member is of similar size and shape, when properly folded, as the outer member in which it fits 'slidablyc The showing a -member 10 has mounted on the side thereof a suitable strip 11 for striking the matches.
The inner member comprises a main back portion 12, a fr'ontportion- 13 of slightly less length than the back portion, and side portionsl l and 15, the bottom being formed by an integral web (not shown) which unites the front and back portions. The top is formed by a flap 16 extending from the back portion 12 and being of a length greater than the front to rear dimension of the box I so as to fold downward over the space between the top of the front portion and the top of the box.
The top part of the side element 15 is in the form of a member 30 hinged at its lower edge to swing outwardly to uncdver one side of the receptacle for the matches, this receptacle being .divided from the main box chamber by a partition wall 20. These parts may be all formed by suitably bending a single blank. For increased convenience in extracting the matches the latter may be attached to the member 30 as indicated at 32 so as to be moved out of the match compart-. ment when said member is swung open.
Vhen a cigarette and match are to be extracted from the box the inner member is pushed to free the flap 16 from the outer member, for access to the cigarettes and matches.
The box shown in Fig. 2 is of the same general construction as that shown in Fig. 1, differing however in having the movable wall 31 of the match compartment hinged along one side instead of at the bottom.
7 If desired, the main compartment in my improved box could be used to hold loose tobacco instead of cigars or cigarettes.
Having thus described my invention what claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows z- A box of the type specified consisting of an outer member, and an inner member slidable therein, a partition extending across said inner member from front to rear thereof to provide a match compartment adjacent one side of the said inner member, the adjacent side wall of the inner member being in the form of a hinged flap covering said matchflcompartment.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
