BENJAMIN LEBWOHL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.. ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 BENJAMIN MINDICH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED CIGAR OR CIGARETTE AND MATCH 130K.
Application filed August 1, 1922. Serial No. 578,865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN LEnwoHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigar or Cigarette and Match Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the small cartons or boxes in which cigarettes and cigars are sold, and it has for an object to pro-' vide a novel form of box of this type arranged to contain also a supply of matches which are placed therein, or attached thereto, at the time of packing.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the fol-- lowing description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing the box disassembled.
Fi 2 is a perspective view of the assemb ed box.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view, partly broken :way, showing a slightly modified form of Fig. i is a perspective view showing a further modification.
Fig. 5 is a perspective of this box with the elements thereof partly opened up.
Referrin now to the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the same comprises an outer rectangular shell 10, of card-board or like material, which is open at both ends to receive the inner member in which the cigarettes are carried. The inner member is of similar size and shape, when properly folded, as the outer member in which it fits slidably.
The entire inner member is formed of one piece and comprises main back and front panels 11 and 12 united by a bottom element 13 and having overlapping side flaps 14 and 15 respectively. Formed on the upper end of the back panel 11 is an angular flap 16 which forms the top of the box.
Joined to the front panel 12 at the top edge of the latter is a flap 18 which lies thereagainst when the parts are assembled,
- and this flap has attached thereto, near its bottom edge, a tab 19 and a fiat pad 20 of matches, the pad lying upon the outer face of the tab. The heads of the matches and the free end of the tab are toward the top of the box, the tab projecting upwardly beyond the matches. g"
Formed in one wall of the outer member 10 is a horizontal slot 22 of sufficient size to accommodate the match. pad 19 and tab 20, the top of the tab projecting slightly through said slot when the box is closed, the general position occupied b the tab being the same as that shown in Fig. 3, which differs from the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 only in forming the tab 19 as an integral. extension of the flap 18 and tapering it at the sides.- By grasping the projecting end of the tab and pulling thereon both the inner member and the match pad are projected from the outer member.
In the construction shown in Fi 4 and 5 the entire box is formed of one iece suitably folded and comprises the out and back panels 25 and 26 united by the bottom element 27. An extension, indicated generally at 28, is formed on one side of the back member 26 and is suitably folded to form a side chamber 29 to receive matches, the opposite side having a flap 30 therein, like flaps 31 being formed on the front member 25. The back panel 26 has a flap 32 which forms the top of the box, while the extension 28 is formed with a flap 33 which covers the top of the match chamber 29 and the opposite side is formed with a flap 36' which covers the cigarette chamher. The top portion of the outer wall of the match chamber is in the form of a flap 34 perforated along its lower edge so as to be readily removable. An insert 35 is folded into the match chamber to forma raised bottom thereon.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows 1. A box of the type described com rising an outer member, an inner member s idable therein, and a pad of matches carried by the inner member and adapted to be projected from the outer member in unison with the inner member, said outermemher having a slot therein through which the matches are projected.
2. A box of the type described comprising; an outer member open'at both ends 3. A box of the type described comprising an outer member open at both ends and having a transverse slot in one Wall, an inner member slidabie therein, a tab and a pad of matches mounted on one wall of said inner member, said tab having a free end projecting beyond the pad of matches outwardly through said slot when the box is closed, said tab and pad being attached'atone end only to one end of said inner member.
4; A box of the type described compris-v ing an outer member open at both ends and having a transverse slot in one wall, an inner member slidabie therein, a tab and a pad of matches mounted on one wall of ing an outer memberopen at both ends and having a transverse slot in one wall, an inner member slidable therein, a tab and a pad of matches mounted on one wall of said inner member, said tab having a free.
end projecting beyond the pad of matches outwardly through said slot when the box is closed, said tab and pad being attached at one end only to one endof said inner member, with the pad lying upon the outer face of the tab. 1
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
BENJAMIN LPEBWOHL.
