My present invention relates to a box and more particularly to a box made from a blank of cardboard or similar material and adapted to contain candyand a prize or similar device. The object of my invention is the provision of abox having an attractive appearance which may be made from a blank, readily assembled, and in whlch the ends are formed to completely cover these;-

Referring to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 to at inclusive thereof, the form of the improved box therein illustrated may compriseablank 10 made of suitable cardboard or other similar material so as to include a substantially rectangular body section scored transversely along the lines 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16, in order to form the sides of the box which are indicatedby 17,

In this form of the invention the side member 17 is scored at its extremities as indicated at 24: and 25 and is continued to provide the end flaps 26 and 27. Similarly the extremities of the sidemember 18 are scored as indicated at 28 and 29 so as to provide for the end flaps 30 and 31. At one extremity the side member 19 is not provided with a flap, but at the other extremity there is an outer flap 32 which as hereinafter described may be turned over on the score line 35. Similarly to the side member 17 the side member 20 at its extremity is scored alongthe lines 34; and 35 and continued to provide the end. flaps 36 and 37, and in like manner the side member 21 is scored at its extremities as indicated at 38 and 89 and extended to provide for the end flaps lOand 41. At one extremity the side member 22 is provided with no flap, while at theother extremity the side member is scored at 42 and extended to provide the end outer flap 43. The outer flaps 32 and 43 may be versely scored adjacent their outer ends as and d5 so that the extremities thereof may be turned into the box as hereinafter described.- As indicated in these figures of the drawing, and particularly in Figs. '3 and 4, the ends of the flaps 26, 27, 30 and 31 are angular.

In the manufacture of these boxes the blank 10 is first made and then the blank is folded on the score line 13 and the attach ment flap turned in and secured to the side member orwall 17 by a suitable adhesive so that the parts assume a flat condition as indicated in Fig. 3 of, the drawing. In this condition the box blanks are delivered to the distributor who sets. up the box and fills it with candy or other material. In setting adjacent sections or side memtransv up the box the body or six-sided portion is first opened to position. The ends of the box are similarly constructed, hence the folding of but one end will-be described in the form of the box illustrated. The flaps 26 and 30 may be first folded to position so that the extremity of the pointed end of the flap lies at the division line between the side members or walls 19 and 20. The flap 30 may then turn to position so that the extremity thereof lie-s at the division line between the walls or site members 21 and The oppositely disposed flaps 36 and 40 may then be folded to position so that the extremity of the flap 36 lies in the division line between the walls 17 and 22, and the extremity of the flap 4O lies in the division line between the walls 18 and 19.' It will be understood however, that instead. of folding the flaps to position in pairs, they may be folded in any other manner either consecutively or alternately, or otherwise, and thatirrcspectlve of the order in which they are folded to position the ultimate result is substantially the same. With the flaps thus folded to position the entire 7 end of the box is covered with the exception of small triangular spaces adjacent the extremity of the walls 22 and 19, and that these spaces are covered and the flaps maintained in position by folding the outer flap 43 to place and tucking the extremity thereof inside the wall 19. It will now be understood that the box thus formed is readily opened for the examination and removal of its contents, and that the parts may be readily folded to position again and the box closed to assume its normally closed condi tion.
In the form of the invention as illustrated in Fig. 5, the walls of the box are indicated at 46, 47, 48, 49, and 51. Predetermined side walls preferably the intermediate walls are provided with flap extensions, that is to say the walls 47 49 and 51 are provided with these flaps. The flap extending from the wall 51 is indicated at 52. This flap is so shaped when the box is set up in position that one edge 53 thereof is adapted to lie along the end edge of the side member or wall 50, and the edge 54 of the flap 52 to lie along a portion of the wall 49. The flap extending from the wall 47 is indicated at 55. Similarly the edge 56 of the flap is adapted when the parts are set up in position to extend along and lie adjacentto the end edge of the wall 48, and the edge 57 of the flap 55 to extend along a portion of the end of the wall 49. These positions are indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 5. When the flaps 52 and 55 are folded to position the end of the box is closed with the exception of a small triangular portion adjacent the wall 46. This is closed and the flaps maintained in position by turning over the outer I flap 58 and tucking the extremity thereof into the triangular opening and behind the adjacent end portion of the wall 46.
In the form of the invention as illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7, the side members or walls of the box at each end with one exception are provided with flap extensions in the same manner as they are in the form of'the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4. In this form of the invention however, the side members or walls are indicated at 59, 60, 61, 62, 63 and 64. The side member 59 is provided with a flap (35 which as illustrated, is triangular in outline, and the wall 61 is provided with a similar flap 66. The side member 62 is provided with a flap 67 and one edge thereof as indicated at 68 is adapted when the flap is folded to position to lie against the adjacent edge of the triangular flap 66. The flap xtending from the side member 64 is indicated at 69 and when the flaps are folded to position the edge 70 of the flap 69 is adapted to lie against the adjacent edge of the triangular. flap 65. With these flaps in the positions as described, the ends of the box will be closed with the exception of relatively small triangular spaces which are covered by the outer flap 71 when folded to place and its extremity tucked in behind the side member 63. In this form of the inventi on the oppositely disposed edges of the flap 71 may be notched adjacent the extremity of the flap as indicated at 72 and 73, whereby when the flap is tucked to position the edge portions 7 4 and 75 of the flaps 69 and 6'? enter these notches 7 2 and 73 respectively, 00 to secure the flap in place. It willbe understood however, that this connection is not a permanent one and that the outer flap may be readily removed and the other flaps opened to inspect or remove in part or in its entirety the contents of the box.
It will be understood that the box made in accordance with my invention may be constructed with a greater number of sides than those described and that the end flaps may have the same or similar constructions without departing from the nature and spirit of the invention, irrespective of the number of side members or walls that the box may have.
I claim as my invention:
1. A box for candy and the like, comprising oppositely disposed pairs of side walls, oppositely placed side walls intermediate of the said pairs of side walls, end flaps extending from the end of each pair of side walls, the said flaps being tapered from one side to the other forming a point at the extremity of the long side thereof with the long side of each of the said flaps substan- 12h tially equal to the distance between oppositely disposed. side members of the box so that when folded to place the points of the V flaps first folded to position fit into corners between adjacent sidemembers to shape the box and form an end Wall for the box, an extension from one of the said intermediate Walls adapted to overlie the said flaps to retain the same in place, and a flap at the extremity of the saidextension adapted to be tucked Within the oppositely disposed intermediate Wall to secure the said exten sion in position. a

A box for candy and the like, comprising oppositely disposed pairs of side walls, oppositely placed side walls intermediate of the said pairs of side walls, end flaps extending from the end of each member of each pair of side Walls, the extremities of the flaps extending from each pair of side walls being oppositely tapered from side to side forming a point at the long side of each of the same, whereby the long edges of the said flaps are adjacent each other, the long edges of these flaps being substantially equal to the distance between opposite side walls other intermediate wall at the other end of the box, and flaps extending from the ex-. treniities of the said'extensions, the flaps of pairs of intermediate Walls being adapted when folded to position to substantially close the ends of the box and the extensions from'the intermediate walls of the box be ing adapted to ,maintain the said flaps in place when folded to position to close the,
