PATENT oFFIcE.
LLOYD E. BENNER, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
BOX.
Application filed April 11, 1927. Serial No. 182,751.
My invention has for its object to provide a triangular box formed from a single blank, and to this end it consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and defined 1n the claims.
The improved box. while intended for general use, is especially adapted for bolding a single cut of pie.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank showing one form of the box;
Fig. 2 isa perspective view showing the blank folded to form a box:
Fig. 3 is a view in section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a View corresponding to Fig. 2 but showing a slight modification in the lock tongue.
The numeral 5 indicates a single blank from which the triangular box shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is formed. This blank. 5 be formed from any suitable material as relatively stitt' paper stock, and comprises a triangular bottom member 6, two rectangular side members 7 and 8, a rectangular secondary cover member 9, a rectangular main cover member 10, a rectangular end member 11, tucks 12, 13 and 14., a tuck 15, and a lock tongue 16.
The end members 7 and 8 are formed at the s des of the bottom member 6 and the cover members 9 and 10 are formed at the outer longitudinal edges of the end members 7 and 8, respectively. The end member 11 is formed at the. base of the main cover member 10. The flaps 12 and 13 are fornied with the ends of the side members 7 and 8 at the base of the bottom member 6. and the flap 14 is formed with the other end of the side member 7. The tuck 15 is formed at the outer longitudinal edge of the end member-11. The tongue 16 is formed with the bottom member 6 at the base thereof. A lock slot 17 for the tongue 16 is formed between the main cover mem ber 10 and the end member 11.
The blank 5 is scored or cut creased to form folding lines. a between the bottom member 6 and side members 7 and 8; fold ing lines 6 between the end member 7 and mag sue supplemental cover 9 and the side member 8 and the main cover 10; folding lines a between the end members 7 and 8 and tucks 12, 13 and 14; folding line d between the main cover member 10 and end member 11; folding line e between the end member 11 and tuck 1 5; folding line f between the bottom member 6 and tongue 16; and folding line 9 in said tongue.
To form the box shown in Fig. 2 from the blank 5 shown in Fig. 1, the sides 78 are first folded on the lines a. The tucks 12, 13 and 14 are next folded inward on the lines a. The secondary member 9 is then folded on its line b and onto said tucks into a position in which it is parallel with the bottom member 6. The main cover 10 is then folded on its line b and onto the secondary cover 9. The end member 11 is then folded on the line 03 until stopped. by the tucks 12 and 13. and its tuck 15 is then inserted into the box between the tucks 12 and 13 and the bottom member 6, and finally the tongue 16 is folded on the line f into fiat engagement with the end member 11 and thenfolded again on the line 9, and
its free end slot 17.
From the above description it is evident that the box is formed from a single p ece of material and without the use of glue or other fastening means.
The structure defined in Fig.4 is the same as that shown in Fig. 1 with the exception of the tongue 18 which is inserted through a slit 19 in the transverse center portion inserted through the of the, end member 11.
What I claim is:
1. A triangular box-forming blank having folding lines arranged to form an intermediate triangular bottom member, two rectangular side members, one at each side of the bottom member, a triangular cover member at the outer side of one of the side members, an end member at the base of the cover member, a triangular secondary cover member at one side of one of the side members, tucks at certain of the ends of the side members, a flap formed with the outer longitudinal edge of the end member, and a tongue formed with the bottom member at the base thereof and arranged to be inserted through a slit in the end member, whereby when the blank is folded a triangular box is formed having but one free edge at the top and one free edge at. the bottom, said free edges being disposed at an angle to each other.
2. A foldable triangular box formed from a. single blank closed at its top, bottom and sides, said blank being so shaped and scored as to provide when folded only one free edge at the top and one free edge at the bottom, the vertically spaced free edges extending parallel With diiierent sides of the box.
3. A foldable box comprising superimposed triangular top portions, a triangular bottom portion, and two rectangular side portions connecting said top and bottom portions in series, and a third rectangular side port-ion forming an integral extension of one of said to portions having means frictionally engaglng with said bottom portion. whereby only one free edge is provided at the top and at the bottom of the folded 4. A foldable triangular box blank in a single piece scored between its marginal edge to provide a triangular bottom portion and two triangular top portions connected to opposite sides of said bottom portion by intermediate rectangular side portions providing four connected sides of a triangular box when folded with one free edge, and 2.
rectangular extension of one of said top members forming the fifth side of said box and having a flap adapted to frictionally engage said bottom portion providing a second free edge extending atan angle to the free edge aforesaid and on the opposite side of the folded box.
.5. A foldable triangular container in a single piececomprisi ng-a' trapezoidal shaped blank scored to-provide a centrally arranged triangular bottom portion and tn o triangular top portions connectedto sides of said bottom portion by intermediate rectangular side portions, reinforcing stayfiaps extend ing parallel with said side portions adjacent the ends of the tree sidesof said bottom portion, and a third rectan ular side portion forming an extension o one side of one of said topmembers and having a closure flap adapted to be frictionally held between the edges of said stay flapsand said bottom portion when folded, whereby only one free edge is providedat the, top and at the bottom of the folded triangular, container.
In testimony whereof ture.
LLOYD BENNER.
