\ 3 Claims. (Q1. 229-17) This invention reletes to certons and particuigrly to cartons adapted to contain stranded cot- My invention is susceptible of many andvaried uses, but the particular object thereof is to provide an improved certori tor packaging and dispensihg stranded cotton, or the like.
Another ohject is to provide on improved one goiece dispensing carton which is made in a fiat or collapsed condition to facilitate shipment thereof.
Yet another object is to provide an improved dispensing-,- carton which is made from o, single blerilr oi cardboard, or the hire, which is provided with e phlrality oi or which tlegos is provided with resilient gripping fingers.
A fourth object is to provide a one olece dispensins' carton of the character described which is provided with top end bottom closure hops end inside pocket adopted toreceive one or said closure discs. 4
Another object of the invention is to provide on ih'ijoroved one piece dispensing carton which be shipped in s. collapsed condition for subsequent erection-tor use o, dispensing container for cotton, or the like.
Other and more specific oblects of the tion ere mentioned and descrihed herein.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanymg drawings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the exterior appearance of the erected carton with the top closure flop open;
Figure 2 is e. fracmehtsl similar view showing the cotton gripping flap in operative position and the remaining flops open;
Figure 8 is a. plan view of the one oiece blank from which my improved dispensing carton is made; t
Figure 4 is a similar view of the blank partially folded;
Figure 5 is a section taken transversely through the erected carton body; and I Figure 61s a plan view of the carton in the collapsed condition ready for packing and shipment.
Similar numerals of reference indicatelike parts throughout the several views on the drawings. While only one form of this invention is illustrated it may assume several or various forms. This carton invention, as illustrated, may include the four side, end, side and end walls 2, 3, 4 and i5, respectivelv, and the extra or pocket wall 6, all connected together and formed from a single ohertured closure flops, one
- carton the extra or pocket wall 6 v is the condition shown piece of cardboard, or'other suitable material. said walls being bendable toward each other on score lines i, i to facilitate a box-litre erection of the carton. The one piece blank is illustrated in Fig. 3 and the erected carton in Fig. 1 01 the 5 drawings. V
The carton-wells 33, t, ii my be provided with integral bottom closure flops 8, d and it, respectlvely, and the flap ii may he provided with an end fastener flap i i, all of said bottom flaps being 10 bendable on suitable score lines, as is well known in the art. a I
The end wall 5 may be provided with en integral festener flop it on the outer edge thereof which is behdebleoh the score line ill and which 1515 adopted to be glued to the area i l oi the pocket flop '25 after the letter has been folded against the reverse side of the side Wall which is the inside of the erected carton. ihe upper ends of the carton wells 23, t end 5 maybe provided with the integral top flops it, it end it, respectively, all of "which are bendable on suitable score lines (well known in the art) toward their pertaining wells. The top flap ill is provided with a circular hole it, and flap ill may he provided with e testerier time ill, and flap it may he provided with o. circular hole from which a plurality of radial slits 2i extend to form a plurality of resilient clipping fingers on the flop tid- The extra, or pocket, flop (3 they be provided with the integral bottom closure fis which they hove on end fastener flop 2d thereon, the ric being bendable on a. suitable score line. The upper or top end of the pocket flap 6 may he provided with the integral flap 25 which has a circular opening 26 formed therein, and which may hove the integral fastener flap 2'! on its outer end, said lien 25 being bendable on a suitable score line, as is well known.
The collapsed carbon is illustrated in the plan-40 view in Fig. 6, and to effect such condition of the is bent on score line 1 to place it beneath the side wall 2 (Fig. 4) which, as stated is adjacent the inside surface of the wall 2, and in which arrangement of the,
parts the fastener flap l2, after folding the walls: 2, 3, l and B on their respective score lines I to form a box-like unit, is glued to the area ll of the wall 6.
- The folded, or erected, condition oi iny im- I proved carton may then be readily efi'ected, which in Figure 1. It will be appreciated that the face oi the wall 8 in either the collapsed or erected condition of the carton,- is not glued to the inside adjacent surface oi'the .2 M 2,620,063 I side wall 2, but is unattached thereto to provide a an inside pocket 28, open at top and bottom thereof, to admit of the insertion of one of the top and bottom flaps, as herein described.
In closing the bottom of my improved dispensing carton the two flaps 8 and it are first folded into closure position and followed by the flap 23,
the'fastener flap 24 of the latter being then thrust into fastening position, that is, between the sideedges of the flaps 8 and Ill and the adjacent side wall'l; The closure flap 9 is then folded over the h carton bottom and over flap v23, the fastener flap f theflap I1 is folded inward initially, followed by H of flap 9 being thrust into the lower end of the pocket 28 between the walls Sandi. I
To close the upper end of the erected carton the flap l5 above the formerpthe flap 1! being then overlaid by the apertured flap whose fastener flap 21 is thrust into the cartoninterior between the side edges of the flaps I! and I1 and the adjacent side wall 4. In this condition of the invention the hole 20 in flap I1 and gripping fingers 22 are exposed and accessible through the holes l8 and 2B, and stranded cotton packed in the carton in any suitable manner may be readily extracted in any suitable quantity through the orifice effected by the opening 20 and the resilient fingers 22..
.Inasmuch as the resilient fingers 22 always hold the cotton strand suihciently snugly itis an easy matter to'manually remove small tufts, or portions, from the cotton strand, althoilsh any I desired quantity of the cotton may as readily be skilled in this artwithout departure from the extracted from the carton. To seal the carton the top closure flap is is folded over the carton top and its fastener flap I9 is thrust into the pocket 28 between the adjacent unattached walls 8 and 2. It will beevident from the foregoing that my improved dispensing carton enables ready extraction of stranded cotton through the openings '26, IB and 20, which register with each other, after opening the closure flap l6, and that the cotton is securely confined within the carton by the flaps l5, I1, 25 and 21st all times while such cotton extraction is being eifected. It is understood that I do not wish to be limited' to the specific structure of this invention, as
illustrated, same being merely by way of illustration, and not limitation, as other forms of the carton will no doubt be apparent to persons spirit of theinventicn or the scope of the claims.
