ATTORNEYS To all whom it may concern:
GEORGE WILFRED WRIGHT, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
DESK-REMINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Oct. 17, 1911.
Application filed March 18, 1911. Serial No. 615,249.
Be it known that I, GEORGE WILFRED WRIGHT, a citizenof the United States, and a resident of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Desk-Reminder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to' a new and improved device adapted to be set on a desk or table for the purpose of holding memorandum tabs or sheetsof paper, to remind the user of some points which he desires to remember;
An object of this invention isto provide a device which will hold a plurality of memorandum tabs in separate readily-accessible positions, whereby they can not only be readily removed and inserted, but also can be at least partially visible, so as to be distinguishable one from the other.
A further object of this invention is to provide a desk-reminder which'will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, capable of being made and affording sufiicient surface to apply advertising matter, so that if desired, the same can be given away as an advertisement.
These and further objects, together with the construction and combination of parts, will be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which-.
Figure 1 is a perspective View; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 illustrates the blank from which the device is formed.
Referring more particularly to the separate parts of this invention as embodied in the form shown in the *lrawin s, it will be seen that there is provided a ase 1, from which extends upwardly, preferably at an acute angle thereto, a riser 2, so as to form a reclining support. This support is provided with a plurality of holders 3, between which and the support may be inserted sheets of paper or other tabs on which melnoranda may be placed. They may also hold anything which it is desired to attract the attention of the user to at some future time.
In the form shown in the drawings, these holders are formed by providing U-shaped slots or cuts 4 in the riser, and stamping the tongue thus formed slightly outward, with the greatest extent of offset from the body of the support located at the top, so that the memorandum tabs can be readily inserted between the tongue and the support.
Secured to the base, there is provided a handle 5 which also forms a base on which advertlsing matter can be readily stamped or prlnted, so that it will be in a position to attract the attention of the user and other parties coming in juxtaposition thereto. It will be seen that the handle or advertising strip 5 is formed by cutting a somewhat ovate slot or incision 6 in the blank, and then bending it up at rightangles to the base, leaving a short neck portion at 7, where the handle is connected to the base. It is further to be seen that the base 1 and the riser 2 are formed integral with each other, that is to say, all of the members of the device are stamped from a slngle strip of metal having an elongated POI'tlOIl at one end, which forms the riser, and an enlarged portion at the other end, from which the handle and the base'are constructed.
The utility of the device will be readily understood when taken in connectioh with the above description. The device is set on the desk or any other readily accessible positlon, where the user can readily see any memory tabs which he may secure thereto by means of the holders3. These tabs. by virtue of the spaced relation of the holders, are separable one from the other, and in fact, separately visible, so as to be readily distinguished one from the other. The handle 5 forms a sufficient surface on which an advertisement may be stamped, so that, if desired, the device can be given away as an attractive and useful advertisement, which will always be before the eyes of the user. The fact of the device being made from a single sheet of metal permits it to be manufactured at a trifling expense, and yet does not detract from its usefulness.
While I have shown one embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be limited to the specific details thereof, but desire to be protected in various changes, alterations and modifications which may come within the scope of the appended claims.
plurality of U-shaped slots cut therein,
forming tongues,- said tongues being stamped from the body of said riser to form holders adapted to secure between themselves and said riser, memory tabs, and a handle stamped out of said base, and bent at an angle to said base and said riser;
2. A desk reminder, comprising a bae,a riser, and a handle, said desk reminder being formed of a single integral sheet of material having an elongated portion and a transversely;enlarged portion, integral with each other, said elongated portion having U-shaped cuts therein forming tongues, said tongues being bent out from the body of I formed from said enlarged portion, said handle being bent at substantially rightangles -to said base, and said elongated portion being bent at an acute angle to said base to form said riser, which extends in a reclining position when said base assumes a horizontal position. Y
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
