Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 26, 1905. Serial No. 262,432.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE W. Roenns, a citizen of the United States,residing at Wellesley, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sign-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this, invention is to providea neat, simple, and cheap device which may be hung upon the doors of offices or rooms to indicate whether the occupant is within or whether he is busy and also to provide material whereon the caller can write a note to be left for the occupant of the room or so that he may receive it upon his return.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claim thereof.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one side of my improved sign-card. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the opposite side of said sign-card. Fig. 3 is a section, partly in elevation, taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1 looking toward theleft in said figure.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 is a piece of stiff cardboard. 6 is a block formed of a plurality of sheets of blank paper, and 7 is a metal cardcase formed of a front 8, two sides 9 9, and a bottom 10, the sides 9 9 being provided with prongs 11 11 and 12 12. The prongs 11 11 extend through the cardboard 5 and are turned over upon the opposite face thereof, as indicated in Fig. 3. The prongs 12 12 also extend through the cardboard and through the blockof paper, whereby said block of paper is fasten-ed to one side of the card and the cardcase to the opposite side thereof. The case 7 is filled with several cards 13 13, upon which is printed any desired word or combination of words, such as Busy, Walk in, Return at 12, &c. Said words are visible through an opening 16, provided in the front 8. The manner of using my improved signcard is as follows: When the occupant of the room goes out, he places the desired card at the front of the open card-case 7 and hangs the sign-card upon a hook provided for the purpose in the door by means of a cord 14:, fast to said card. In a convenient place upon the face of the card is printed the word Over, and any one'calling While the occupant of the room is out can reverse the card 5 and write a message upon one of the sheets of the block of paper, either leaving the sheet on the block or else tearing it ofif and placing it in the cardcase. A pencil 15, attached by a cord 16 to the card 5, affords a convenient means for writing the message.
It is evident that the portion of the face of the card 5 not covered by the block of paper 6 may be used for advertising purposes.

In a device of the character described,acard, a metal casing fast to one side thereof, prongs integral with said metal casing and extending through said card, and a block of paper fast to the opposite side of said card from that upon which said casing is located, said prongs extending through said block of paper and fastening the same to said card.
