To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SoHUYLER MAXFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Exhibiting Memoranda; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in devices for exhibiting memoranda.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character adapted to contain memoranda or lists of articles which may be displayed or exhibited when desired as a reminder to obtain said articles or for other purposes, the memoranda or lists being preferably arranged in alphabetical order on the device.

A further object is to provide an exhibiting device of this character adapted to contain a memoranda of articles and also upon which may be placed advertising matter, a calendar, a thermometer and similar devices, means being provided whereby the device may be hung up or supported upon the wall.

I/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a memoranda exhibiting device constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the outer plate or card of the device removed; and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the exhibiting device, which consists of an inner supporting plate or card 2 and an outer plate or card 3. Said cards or plates 2 and 3 may be of any suitable shape and are here shown as substantially oblong having the opposite side edges of the same cut away or'recessed, as at 4, to form upper and lower enlarged spaces 5 and 6, upon which may be placed advertising matter, a calendar or other useful devices. In the present instance the upper space 5 is shown as utilized for advertising purposes, while the lpwer space 6 has arranged thereon a calen- Pivotally-mounted between the inner and outer plates 2 and 3 adjacent to their opposite edges is a series of display tabs 8 adapted to be turned outwardly at right angles to the edges of the cards or plates 2 and 3 when in an operative position and to be turned inwardly between said plates and covered thereby when not in use. The tabs 8 are preferably arranged between the cards or plates 2 and 3 upon rivets 9 or other suitable fastening devices and there may be any desired number of tabs arranged upon each pivot and one or more of said tabs are swung outwardly to an operative position when desired. Upon the outer face of each of the tabs is printed or written the name of an article to which it is desired to call attention.

Arranged between the inner and outer plates or cards 2 and 3 is a central, longitudi nally-disposed stop strip 10. This strip 10 is of a suitable width to limit the inward movement of the tabs 8 when turned inwardly between the plates 2 and 3, so that the outer edges of the tabs when thus turned in will lie flush with the adjacent outer edges of the plates 2 and 3. The strip 10 is preferably formed with a longitudinally-disposed slot or opening 12 through the center thereof, thus providing upon opposite sides of the opening narrow bars 13 which owing to the len th of the strip 10 will have more or less resi iency or spring. The inner ends of the tabs 8 are rounded and of such length that when the tabs are swung outwardly to a horizontal or operative position said rounded inner ends of the same will forcibly engage the spring or resilient bars 13 of the strip 10, so that the tension of said bars will serve to yieldingly support the tabs in a horizontal position. The strip 10 thus serves the double function of a stop to limit the inward movement of the tabs when in an inoperative position and also a yielding support for the tabs when in an operative position.

In the opposite side edges of the plates or cards 2 and 3 adjacent to the lower end of each of the tabs 8 when the latter are swung per ends of the plates 2 and 3 is secured an eye or ring 16, by means of which the device may be hung upon a nail or other suitable support. The tabs are preferably arranged on the cards or plates 2 and 3 in such manner that the names of the articles thereon will be in alphabetical order, and on the outer card 3 opposite the pivot of each set of tabs will be placed the letter of the alphabet corresponding to the first letter of the names on said tabs, so that the tabs containing the names of any desired article may be immediately found and swung to an operative position.

A memoranda exhibiting device constructed as herein shown and described will serve as a convenient and useful reminder by which lists of articles, data or other matter may be prominently displayed and attention called to the same.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,

' the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing fi'om the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
