To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AMES ADRIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Halfway, in the county of Baker and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices;

and I do declare the following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to advertising devices.

In rural districts and other points, it is frequently necessary to post advertisements where they will be seen by passersby. For instance, a farmer will have certain goods which he wishes to dispose of and heretofore the method of advertising these goods was to place signs at the entrance to his place upon the gate post or other support whereby the travelers along the road or through that section might be acquainted with his desires. Frequently these signs were unintelligible either through various errors in printing or were rendered unintelligible by the elements.

It is the object of the invention to avoid these difiiculties and to provide a device which will hold a series of ribbons upon which the goods to be sold may be named, the amount of each stated and the price thereof expressed. Provision is made whereby these difierent signs may be independently moved or whereby they may be moved as a single element as is desired.

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing a for-sale card in position upon the front of the device; Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the device with a wanted card tacked to the front of the device; Fig. 3 is an end elevation; Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line H of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the line 55 of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a rear view with the cover removed; Fig. 7 is a rear view with the cover removed and with the single web rollers in place; Fig. 8 is a vertical sectional view of the casing with the single web rollers in place.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a casing comprising the two sides, top and bottom. The front and the back edges of the top and sides are bent into beads 2, which form channel ways for the reception of the front 3 and the back 41. The front 3 is preferably provided with a glass 5 extending approximately the full width of the casing and having arran 'ed thereabove spring clips 6 which hold the 'orsale or wanted cards 7. The bead 2 is perforated, as at 8, in alinement with a similar aperture formed in the front 3 so that a locking hook 9 may be passed therethrough to prevent the removal of the front. The right hand side of the casing and the rear bead 2, adjacent the top and bottom, are slotted at 10 to receive the operating shafts 11 which have their outer ends journaled in notches 12 forming a continuation of the slots 10. These operating shafts pass through the casing and have their free or inner ends journaled in the central partitions 13 and 141 of the frame 20, the side of the frame being slotted as at 15 to permit the passage of the shafts to their working positions. The partition 13 is provided with diagonal slots 16 to permit the insertion of the free ends of the short shafts 17 located in between the long shafts on one side of the vertical center of the casing. This same construction is carried out on the opposite side of the casing where the partition 141 is provided with diagonal slots 18 adapted to receive the free end of the short shafts 19. The right hand side member of the frame 20 is provided with the slots 15 having notches 22 at their lower ends which correspond with the slots 10 and the notches 12, whereby the rollers 11 may be passed to their operative positions when the frame is in place. For this purpose, the partition 13 is notched as at 13 The short shafts 17 and 19 have their ends opposite to those journaled in the slots 16 and 18 journaled in apertures 23 and 24 formed in the sides of the casing and the sides of the frame, respectively.

Connected to the casing directly back of the glass 5 is a bridge piece 25 over which the webs pass. As shown in Figs. 1 and 6, the webs are three in number, one for each pair of short shafts and one for the pair of long shafts. The central web is wound upon the long shafts and the two opposite webs are wound upon the short shafts.

In Figs. 7 and 8, the frame 20 has been removed and. rollers 26 and 27 are journaled in the casing, one of their ends being mounted in the notches 12 and their opposite ends being journaled in apertures 28 formed in the opposite side of the casing. These rollers are adapted to carry a single web upon which suitable legends may be written or printed. Each shaft is provided with a suitable manipulating handle so that the webs thereon may be wound in either direction and suitable springs 29 bear against the rollers adjacent their handle ends so as to hold them frictionally in their adjusted position.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus descril ed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:

1. An advertising device comprising a casing, a frame removably mounted therein, rollers journaled in said frame and casing, indicating webs wound on said rollers, and a support for the webs mounted on the casing.

2. An advertising device comprising a slotted casing, a frame removably carried therein, a plurality of partitions in said frame, rollers journaled in the slots in said casing, and in the frame and partitions, webs carried by said rollers, means on. the casing to support all of the webs in indicating position, and a sight glass in the casing, adjacent the support.

3. An advertising device comprising a casing, a slotted and apertured frame removably mounted therein, rollers journaled in the slots in the frame and casing, certain of said rollers being passed through alined apertures in the frame and casing to hold the frame in the casing, webs carried by said rollers, a support carried by the casing for holding the web's in indicating position, and a removable front for the casing having a sight opening opposite the support.

An advertising device comprising a slotted and apertured casing, a removable front therefor, a transparent panel in the front, a removable slotted and apertured frame mounted in the casing, webbing rollers journaled in certain of the slots and apertures in the casing and frame, webs carried by said rollers, and a support for said webs carried by the front and arranged adjacent the transparent panel, certain of said apertures and slots adapted to receive a pair of rollers for use in the casing when the frame is removed.
