DISMOUNTABLE PLACARD Filed July 16, 1952 INVENTOR W0 t (P1 9- 14. (LVMmQwL -d United States Patent DISMGUNTABLE PLACARD Savio Giuseppe, Jos V. Viviani, and Celso Maduefio Silva, Sao Paulo, Brazil, assignors to Sociedade Industrial Silpa Ltda, Sao Paulo, Brazil, a firm of the United States of Brazil Application July 16, 1952, Serial No. 299,124
1 Claim. (Cl. 40-140) The present invention relates to an easily mountable and dismountable placard or sign board suitable for several purposes, such as general publicity list of prices in magazines, time-tables, useful information, and others.
The dismountable placard, object of the present invention consists of a plurality of parallel bars or sign supporting members provided wiht longitudinal grooves and separated by spacers or folding members, said bars being maintained in position by means of a suitable frame. The letters employed to form the inscription are provided, on one of their faces, with suitable pins which can be inserted into two parallel grooves, whereby the desired sentences or words may be formed.
According to a further feature of the invention, the grooves and spacers are stamped or cast in one integral, metallic piece, or made of plastic material by any one of the known processes. Moreover, if desired, small plates may be made with only two grooves, which are suitable for exhibition of prices in shopwindows and for other purposes.
Still further features of the present invention are provided, as will be seen hereafter.
The object of the invention is represented, as nonlimiting examples, in the attached drawings, wherein:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a sign board supporting member and a spacer or holding member;
Fig. 2 is a cross section through a sign board assembly made according to the present invention; and
Fig. 3 is a cross section similar to Fig. 2 drawn to enlarged scale and illustrating the manner in which a sign board supporting member is assembled with a sign board.
The invention may be carried out as shown in Fig. 1, wherein a sign supporting member 26 is provided with a central longitudinal projection 27 and with two parallel lateral projections 28; said projections are provided with longitudinal lugs 29 of slightly bulged concave surface, the edges of which are spaced from each other so that grooves 30 are obtained, in which the pins 6 of the letters or numbers can be inserted. In order to space the members 26, elongated holding members 31 are provided having a longitudinal lower projection 32 and oppositely arranged holding projections 34.
"ice
In order to mount and dismount the sign supporting members 26 in a convenient manner, the holding members 31 are fixed to a plate 33, as shown in Fig. 2 in such a way that the holding projections 34 of the holding members 31 overlap slightly the lateral projections 28 of the sign board supporting members 26. By means of this arrangement the sign board supporting members 26 can be easily placed and withdrawn from the sign board as illustrated in Fig. 3. In order to assemble the sign supporting member 26 in the sign board the upper lateral projection of the member 26 is slipped under the holding projection 34 of one of the holding members, then the sign supporting member 26 is tilted towards the plate 33 and shifted downwardly so that the lower projection 21 becomes located underneath the holding projection 34 of the lower holding member 31. In removing the sign supporting member 26 the same is shifted first in upward direction and then swung outwardly.
The dismountable sign board above described in its various features, is very useful in movie theaters, railroad and highway stations, as well as in commercial and industrial establishments.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A demountable sign board comprising in combination, a flat base; a plurality of elongated sign supporting members each having a longitudinal and a pair of parallel lateral projections, said longitudinal and lateral projections being respectively provided with longitudinal lugs having concavely bulged surfaces the edges of which are spaced from each other so as to form grooves, said elongated sign supporting members being arranged on said flat base parallel to and slightly spaced from each other so as to form elongated spaces between adjoining lateral projections; elongated holding members arranged in said spaces, each having oppositely arranged holding projections extending along the length of the holding members and adapted to overlap the lateral projections of adjacent elongated supporting members and to hold the same, and means securing at least said elongated holding members to said fiat base.
