a citizen of the United States, residing atI Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Combined Envelop and Souvenir-Album, of which the following is a specification.

This -invention relates 'to a combined envelop and souvenir-album.

The object of the inveniony is in a ready, practical, attractive, and'simple manner to combine an envelop, letter-sheet, and souve-` nir-album in such manner that while being transported through the mails the contained letter and album shall be thoroughly protected from being inspected or tampered with and which when delivered to the recipient will permit of the letter being removed without interfering with the album proper land in which, further, the means employed for holding the leaves constituting a letter-sheet and album within the .envelop or cover shall constitute a novel and effective form of envelopopening device.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention 'is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a souvenir letter-album, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate'corresponding'parts, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the device, showing. certain of the leaves turned upon themselves to exhibit the lettersheet. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing more particularly `a stub that may b'e combined with the other leaves of the album to permit attachment of an additional letter-sheet or an additional photograph. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the l blank to form the envelop, which is constructed of a sheet of paper preferably rectangular in shape and provided at its center on opposite sides and in transverse alinement with notches `or.rec esses 2, and on one side .of the median line with a gummed margin 3, which may be of any width necessary and which' serves to hold the twosides of the envelop combined While being transmitted through the mails. Assembled withthe envelop is a combined leaf-holder and envelop-opener,

which consists of a length of cord or tape, one

end 4 of which is looped around the envelop and engages the notches 2 and the other end' 5 .of which-is secured to the side 6 by the gum 8, the free end 7 of the cord ortape being projected a suiiicient distance beyond the envelop at its'bend or back to permit of its being readily grasped by the ingers, thus to effect opening of three sides of thek envelop. The loop 8 is shown partly by full (lines and partly by dotted lines in Fig. '3 Vloosely combined with the envelop, and therefore permits insertion beneath it of a'series of leaves 9, of which there may be any desired number, and a letter-sheet 10, the latter being the iirst sheet inthe book and being designed to receive written matter placed thereonvby the sender. The letter-sheet, as shown in Fig. 2, is provided with a weakened or perforated line 11, by which it may be detached from the remainder of the sheet, and a stub 12 thus formed is gummed to permit attach- Patented March 13,1906. l

Of course it is to be undersood that all four y sides of the sheet 10 may be written upon, so

that ample space is provided for writing a letter. The leaves 9 will bear half-tone prints of objects of interest adjacent to the locality whence the album is issued and are intended as souvenirs to be retained by the recipient.

In order to permit additional letters being sealed in the envelop or of additional views or photographs being held within the album, there is a stub 13 provided, which is around the backs of the folded sheets and has its edges gummed, as at 14, to permit attach; V

ment of any desired matter.

In addition to forming a means for holding the various leaves assemble'dwithin the envelop or .cover vthe loop 8 willform a conpassed4 venient means byv which the album may be suspended while on sale, thereby obviating the necessity of driving tacks or other fastenin devices through it.

t will be noted by reference to'Fig. 1 that the various leaves are held loosely combined With the cover or envelop by the loop 8, and this Will permit of all the leaves being removed in a body or any one to the exclusion of the others, if so desired, a feature that Will be found of advantage Where it is desired to remove any particular sheet or the letter from the envelop Without disturbing the others.

The envelop-opening device is of peculiar advantage, inasmuch as it Will remove the liability of the receiver injuring the views contained on the pages 9, as When the end 7 is grasped and draft is applied the cord or tape will readily sever the sealed edges of the envelop and Will effect this in an uneven manner, thereby giving the envelop the appearance of decide-edge paper.

The loop is capable of being extended or lengthened, so that -the contents of three or four albums may be combined in one en velop, thereby saving postage and also permitting the presentation of a large number of photographs or scenes between one cover.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is- 1. A souvenir-album comprising an envelop provided intermediate its ends with notches and recesses, and an eXtensible loop engaging the notches and adapted to hold a plurality of leaves assembled With the envelop, and having a portion constituting an envelop-opener.

2. A souvenir-album comprising an envelop, and an extensible loop combined there- With and having a member detachably secured to the margin of' one side of the envelop and constituting an opening element.

3. A souvenir-album comprising a sheet of paper, to form an envelop, the edges on one side ofthe median line of Which are gummed, and an eXtensible loop loosely combined with the envelop and adapted to hold a )lurality of leaves assembled with the envelop, and having a portion forming an envelop-opener secured to the said gummed edges.

4. A souvenir-album comprising an envelop having a combined loop and envelopopener assembled therewith, the loop being adapted to hold a plurality of leaves assembled With the envelop, and a stub arranged at the bend of the leaves and having gummed portions.
