UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY P. KRELL, OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO MICHAEL OHRISTMANN, OF SAME PLACE.
PAPER-WEIGHT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,665, dated September 161, 1890.
Application filed January 4, 1890. sena No. 335,845. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY P. KEELL, of Leadville, in the county of Lake and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper-Veights, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in paper- Weights seeking to provide a simple construction of combined paper-Weight and calendar, as will more fully appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 a sectional View, of my improved weight.
The paper-Weight consists of the block or Weight properAand the calendar-slip B, such slip being held to one side or face of the block with its face against the surface of the block, so the said calendar may be read through the block. I make the block A of transparent glass, so that the calendar, being held with its face against one side or surface of the block, can be read through such block. Now, to facilitate the securing of the calendar to the block, I prefer to form the latter with a receptacle or seat a for the calendar-slip and to provide port-ions C, overlapping the said receptacle or seat a and serving'to hold the calendar-slip therein. These overlapping portions are preferably in the nature of anges or ribs, as shown; but manifestly they may be simply lugs, or the overlapping portions may be secured by slitting the block for the reception of the calendar-slip.
I may make the receptacle or seat for the calendar at the bottom of the block, as shown,
or such receptacle may be provided at any of the vertical sides of the block, as will be 4o readily understood.
The calendar may be simply a slip printed with the twelve-month record of any given year or the days of any month or Week, or it may be a number of slips integrally formed, printed with the month-records of a number or series of years and capable of being'folded and torn off or folded under for reference from year to year to expose the proper record at all times.
The device is simple, can be made quite ornamental, provides in a Weight the calendar, and secures such calendar so it is prac.- tically framed and protected from the air, dust, flies, inlespots, and the like..
Manifestly a business-card might be substituted for the calendar and might be regarded to a certain extent as the equivalent of the calendar.
Having thus described my invention, What 6c I claim as new is- A transparent paper-Weight block having at one of its sides or faces a receptacle for a calendarslip and provided with portions overlapping said receptacle to secure such slip therein, all substantially as described, whereby the calendar may by the construe` tion of the block be secured to the latter so it may be visible through it, as and for the purposes set forth.
HENRY P. KRELL.
