P. D. ATHER'T'ON. TICKET AND TIME TABLE HOLDER.
Ila/513,749; Patented Jan. 30, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FAXON D. ATHERTON, OF SAN. FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
TICKET AND TIME-TABLE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 513,749, dated January 30, 1894.
Application filed March 30, 1893- $erial 110.46%,357. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FAXON D. ATHERTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Ticket and Time-Table Holders; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a device for holding tickets and time-tables.
It consists in certain details of construction which will, be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- 7 Figure 1 is a View of the holder. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient device with independent concealed and open compartments for the purpose of containing a ticket, which may be eas- 1 ily removed from the concealed compartment,
and for containing a time-tablein the open compartment through which the face of the table is constantly exposed.
The case consists of leather, or other suitable material of the proper size, having a back A and a front B which are stitched together along the two sides and the bottom as shown.
The back is closed and may have upon it any suitable or desired inscription or mark. The front is cut away so as to leave an open space as shown at C.
D is an intermediate diaphragm of the same general shape as the back, and of a sufficient width and length so that its sides and edges are stitched between the back and front, and at the same operation. The front and back pieces and the intermediate diaphragm are cut away in the center of the top to make a semicircular depression E of suflicient size and depth to allow the thumb and fore finger to grasp the ticket which is placed in the rear or closed compartment between the diaphragm and the back, the upper edge being approximately level with the top of the case so that a-portion of it is exposed in the semicircular opening, where it can be grasped by the thumb and fore finger and removed for inspection and replaced. Between the central diaphragm and the front is placed a time card of such size that it slips conveniently into the space and leaves the printed matter upon the face exposed through the opening C in the front of the holder.
I In order to limit the distance to which this table can be introduced into this pocket, I make a line of stitchingthrough the front and the central diaphragm at a point a little below the lower edge of the opening, thus closing this space and forming a stop against which the bottom of the time-table is arrested, so that the figures and lettering thereon may remain properly exposed. This line of stitching is made before the back and front are stitched together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
I. A combined ticket and time-table holder, consisting of the case formed with a closed back, an intermediate closed diaphragm and an open front stitched together at the edges and bottom and having a segmental portion cut away at the center of the top, substantially as herein described.
2. A combined ticket and time-table holder consisting of a closed back and intermediate diaphragm, and an open front all stitched together along the edges and bottom, and an intermediate line of stitching between the bottom of the opening and the bottom of the case whereby the front and intermediate diaphragm are connected together, and a stop formed below the front opening, substantially as herein described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FAXoN' D. ATHERTON.
