(No Model.) T. F. KRUEGER.
COMBINED PAPER WEIGHT, PEN BACK, AND CALENDAR.
No. 528,545. Patented Nov. 6, 1894.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE F. KRUEGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED PAPER-WEIGHT,
PEN -RACK, AND CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,545, dated November 6, 1894.
Application filed January 25,1394. Serial No. 498,007. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE F. KRUEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and Improved Combined Paper-Weight, Pen-Rack, and Calendar, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to acombined paperweight, pen-rack and calendar in which the main-body of the same constitutes a paperweight and pen-rack, the same being provided with certain means for retaining a calendar, and the object thereof is to provide a very simple and ornamental device for such purposes, which can be produced at such a low cost as that it may be given away, when used for advertising.
My invention consists of a transparent main-body of an integral piece fashioned so as to provide a paper-weight and pen-rack, said body having a recess extending upwardly from its base so as to form a chamber in which the calendar is placed and in which it is retained against the front wall of the same by means of a suitable spring interposed between the rear wall of the recess and the back of the calendar.
In the accompanying drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved device, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on the line 2-2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3-3, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The main-body A of my improved device is made from transparent or translucent glass, preferably pressed glass, which simulates a triangle in vertical cross-section, so as to provide a narrow base a, a substantially vertical back a and a receding inclined front a At opposite sides of the front a sufficient number of spur-like teats, or projections B, B, respectively, are formed, which together form a rack and enable the main-body A to be used as a pen-rack, in addition to its capacity as a paper-weight.
Formed in the lower part of the main-body A, so as to open through the bottom thereof and be closed at the top, is a broad recess 0 which is parallel with the front 0. This recess constitutes a chamber adapted to receive a calendar, such as D, which may consist of twelve sheets in tablet form, pivoted so that there may be one for each month of the year, whereby when one month has expired, its
sheet may be torn off to disclose the next.
month. The recess is of a size to conform to a suitable calendar, and so that when a spring, such as E, is interposed between the back sheet and the rear-wall e of the recess the front sheet will be pressed against the frontwall 6- thereof, so as to be observed through the transparent body, between the side racks formed by the teats 13,13. At the back of the upper part of the main-body a suitable advertisement may be placed, so as to be read through the front. As the front, rear, side and top-walls of the recess are closed, no dust or dirt is likely to enter the recess for the reason that it opens downwardly only, and hence when the device is in proper position, all sides of the recess are closed.
In this way a very substantial, cheap and exceedingly unique device adapted to be employed as a paper-weight, pen-rack and calendar is obtained, which can be given away when a suitable permanently affixed advertisement accompanies the same.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-= A transparent paper-weight provided with teats projecting from opposite sides of its inclined face, so as to form a pen-rack, said paper-weight having an upwardly extending recess opening through the bottom and adapted to provide a chamber for a calendar, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEO. F. KRUEGER.
Witnesses PAUL GoEPEL, K. R. BRENNAN.
