2 Claims.
This invention relates to memorandum calendars having particular reference to calendars of the type employing a plurality of tableted sheets, each having calendar data thereon and also adjacent spaces for memoranda which it is desirable to preserve for various periods after the dates appearing on the sheets have, in point of time, expired.
It is an object of the invention to provide a calendar of this character of simple and economical construction and wherein provision is made for preserving the used sheets in an orderly and compact manner in a concealed position at the rear of the calendar.
It is another object to provide a calendar composed of a backing member having connected with the front thereof a plurality of pendent date-bearing and memoranda-providing sheets, the backing member being so constructed that as the periods of time represented on the exposed sheets expire, such sheet or sheets, instead of being torn free from the backing member in accordance with customary practice, may be folded into a novel pocket construction provided at the rear of the backing member, and in which the used sheets are flatly held, such used sheets being concealed from normal front observation of the calendar and yet are accessible at any time for memoranda or records contained thereon.
For a further understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a memoranda calendar formed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through the calendar on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a transverse horizontal sectional view taken through the plane on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral I designates the rectangular backing member of my improved calendar. In practice, this backing member is preferably formed from cardboard, paperboard, or other similar flexible materials. The front surface 2 of the backing member has fastened thereto, as at 3, the upper end of a pad of date-bearing and memoranda-providing paper sheets 4. In practice, each sheet is printed to indicate a period of one week.
In accordance with the present invention, each sheet, as the weekly period thereon expires, is turned over and passed through a horizontal slot 5 formed in the backing member immediately above the sheet pad, and turned downwardly in substantially parallel relationship with the rear surface 6 of" the backing member. To hold these rearwardly positioned sheets in a fiat, compact and assembled order, the backing member, below the slot 5, includes a one-piece transverse web 5a and a pair of spaced substantially triangular openings 1, the latter being separated by a tongue strip 8 constituting an integral part of the backing member. The strip 8 is of a length substantially coextensive with that of the sheets 4 and is separated from the backing member by means of parallel slits 9, which form, below the openings 1, flexible wings in whose upper ends or edges extend obliquely upwardly or outwardly from each other at said openings 1 and which wings ID, in combination with the strip 8, provides a pocket in which the used sheets are positioned and held. The arrangement of these parts is such that the tongue strip will be disposed at the front of the group of used sheets, while the wings in will be disposed at the rear thereof. The used sheets are thus clamped between the tongue 8 and the wings l0 and held with sufficient security so that the same will not become accidentally released from the pocket but will be securely confined therein until removed through deliberate intent and effort.
By this construction, a calendar is provided adapted to receive notations and memoranda and wherein the calendar pad is maintained intact over a prolonged period of time, so that notations or memoranda appearing on the time-expired sheets will be available whenever desired, the calendar being simple and inexpensive to manufacture and easy to operate and use with slight effort on the part of those employing the same.
I claim:
1. A foldable leaf calendar comprising: a backing composed of a flexible sheet, a pad formed of a plurality of foldable leaves attached at their upper edges only to said backing in depending order on the front thereof, said backing immediately above the upper edge of said pad being formed with an unobstructed transversely extending slot of a width for the insertion therethrough of the pad leaves, said backing immediately below said slot being formed with a transversely extending one-piece web whose upper edge is exposed at the slot and a central longitudinal tongue strip extending from and below said web approximately the length of said leaves and connected at its lower end to the backing, said backing including slits to form the side edges of the tongue strip and to provide a flexible wing on each side of said tongue strip, the upper ends of the wings being free of said web, said wings in conjunction with said tongue strip forming a pocket to receive used leaves of said pad which are folded upwardly from normal pendent positions at the front of the backing and then passed through said slot and then directed downwardly so that the foldedrleaves may cross the rear surface of said wet)- and be disposedbetween the front surfaces of said wings and the rear surface of said tongue strip.
2. A foldable leaf calendar as defined in claim 1 wherein the upper ends of wings eit'efitf obliquely upwardly and outwardly from each other to provide approximately triangular openings in combination with the side edges of the tongue strip and the lower edge of the said web.
