7 Claims.
My invention relates to an improvement in a loose-leaf calendar and more particularly to the novel construction for removably supporting the loose-leaf sheets thereof as a calendar hanger.
It is a feature of my invention to provide a support for loose-leaf calendar sheets which is formed from an extension of the top portion of the back member of the calendar.
It is a feature to provide an extension of the back member of the calendar, the outermost portion of which is folded and inserted through a slot or slit formed in each of the sheets to be mounted and then further inserted through a slot formed in the back member which aligns with the slots of the sheets. The extension is then folded upwardly and against the rear surface of the back sheet member to removally bind the sheets to the back member. This construction is aided and accomplished by forming fold lines in the upper extension of the back sheet member intermediate the outermost extension and the slot or slit formed in the back sheet member, in addition to fold lines formed intermediate the aforementioned fold lines and the outermost extension.
It is also a feature to provide a top fiat member which maintains the upper edges of the mounted loose-leaf sheets in a relatively flat position. It is a further feature to provide a pocket formed on the bottom portion of the loose-leaf calendar sheets.
It is an additional feature to provide a series of loose-leaf sheets each of which has a transverse slot or small opening formed therein adjacent the upper edge thereof which receives the outermost extension of the backing sheet and is thereby removably supported against the back support sheet member.
With my construction for calendar hangers, the loose-leaf sheets thereof may be easily mounted, removed, rearranged or discarded.
It is also a feature to provide a calendar looseleaf sheet support whereby the support member is formed in one piece with the back member.
The invention will appear clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing by way of example a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my calendar with the bottom end of the sheets thereof slightly upturned.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the back sheet support member in died-out form.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a died-out alternative form of the back sheet support member.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a loose-leaf sheet of my calendar.
Figure 5 is a plan view of a loose-leaf sheet of my calendar having an end portion thereon adapted to be constructed as a pocket on the sheet.
Figure 6 is a partially enlarged section on the line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a partially enlarged section on the line 1-1 of Figure 1.
My loose-leaf sheet calendar hanger A is composed of a back sheet support member H], which has formed on the upper end thereof a foldable extension binder member consisting of the transverse extended portion I, and the further outermost tongue extension portion I2, which is integrally formed with the extension portion II. The tongue extension portion H may be formed integrally with the back sheet support member Ill. The extension portion of the calendar is formed of the extended portions I I and I2, folded into the position shown in Figure 6 by means of the scored or fold lines I3 and the further scored or fold lines [4.
The back sheet support member to has formed therein the transverse slot or opening l5 through which the outermost extension i2 is inserted with the sheets supported by the portion separated by the fold lines [4, which portion I indicate as hi. For hanging the back sheet support member I0, I provide the hole It through the end of the extension I2 which is adapted to receive a nail or hook or any other suitable means to hang the calendar back sheet support member ill.
I further provide loose-leaf sheets in the form of the sheet ll, which has formed therein the transverse slot or opening l8. A day of the month calendar may be imprinted on the face of the sheet I1. I provide another type of looseleaf sheet l9 which has the transverse slot or opening 20 formed therein, and which also has the lower depending member 2| which is folded and secured to form a pocket 22 as illustrated more particularly in Figure 1, Either type of 3 sheet, H or l9, may be used with my calendar hanger A.
The lower depending portion 2| has formed on the sides thereof the extended flange portions 23 which are folded on the lines 23' and secured to the back surface of the sheet l9 when the depending portion 2l is folded upwardly against the front surface of the sheet [9 on the fold line 24, thereby forming the pocket 22.
In assembling my loose-leaf sheet calendar, the sheets I? or l9 are placed upon the back sheet support member so that the slots l8 or 20 align with the slot or opening IS. The outer tongue extension member [2 is then folded on the fold line l4 and the extension portion II is folded on the fold line 13 while the tongue extension portion l2 is inserted through the opening 20, for example, and then through the slot l5, the tongue extension portion being folded up against the back surface of the back sheet support member ill to assume the position shown in Figure 6 and Figure 1. Sheet I9 may be removed or released by pulling the extension l2 out through the slot l and also from the slot 20.
With my construction the sheets, such as I9, may be removed or rearranged very simply and without turning the pocket 22 upside down in changing the sheets 19. Further, with my construction, the calendar support with loose-leaf sheets may be very easily and economically made, for the back sheet support member ID together with the extension portions ll and 12 may be made of heavy grade paper. In addition, the extension portion H serves to hold down the upper ends of the sheets l9 as a binder therefor, particularly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings. Advertising indicia may be placed on the outer surface of the sheets [9 or H in conjunction with the calendar indicia illustrated on the outer portion of the pocket 22, as illustrated in Figure 1. With my simple loose-leaf sheet calendar with the pockets 22 on the sheets IS, the sheets may be removed and placed to the rear of the series or pack of sheets for future reference. The pockets 22 may be used to file recipes and notes therein for future use. The sheets, such as IS]. with the current calendar month thereon is supported as the first sheet and thereby fully visible.
I provide an alternative back sheet support member 25 which is similar to the upper portion of the back sheet support member H] but which does not have the extended sheet portion as illustrated in Figure 2, which extended portion is not absolutely necessary for the support and hanging of my loose-leaf calendar sheets such as I! and I9.
It is apparent that my support member need not necessarily be formed with the fold lines 13 and H but may be provided with a single fold line l3 and/or I4.
I have provided in my new calendar hanger construction a relatively long transverse opening 15 together with a relatively long coinciding slot I8 or through which the relatively wide extension portion !2 is adapted to be inserted. The width of the extension portion may be of any dimension. However, when it is relatively wide, the sheets are held more compactly and one directly over the other and the same do not tend to angle in relation to each other or in relation to the back sheet support member ID.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a loose-leaf calendar, a support member, an extension connected to said support member, said support member having an opening formed therein, a series of loose-leaf sheets having openings formed therein and adapted to align with said support member opening, all of said openings adapted to receive said extension therethrough to hold said sheets to said support member with said extension drawn upwardly against the back surface of said support member to bind said sheets and provide a hanger therefor.
