3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in visible record equipment, and refers specifically to a record card carrier of the type comprising a base or carrier card upon which a record card or cards may be removably mounted.
Visible record equipment of the type comprising a tray or frame upon which a plurality of carrier cards are hung, -each carrier card serving as a support for one or more data carrying cards, have heretofore been used. However, no neat, simple and convenient means has heretofore been devised for removably supporting the data carrying cards upon the carrier cards.
My invention is particularly directed to a carrier card construction which is simple, neat, durable and which affords a convenient and effective support for a data carrying card or cards.
The objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the accompanying drawing and following detailed description.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a face view of a frame or tray upon which the carrier cards are mounted.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the carrier card and data bearing cards taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlargedperspective View of one of the sleeves or envelopes for an upper corner of the carrier card.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary face View, parts being broken away, of the carrier card and data bearing cards mounted thereon.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary face View of the lower edge of one of the data bearing cards.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6 5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged perspective view of an envelope or sheath for the lower edge o-f the carried card.
Referring in detail to the drawing, I indicates a frame consisting of a web 2 having flanged edge portions 3 and l between which and the web th-e ends of hangers 5 are inserted and held. The frame may be provided with similar flanges (not shown) on the opposite side of the web 2 to permit cards and hangers to be mounted on both faces of the web. Cards 6 are hinged upon the hangers 5 by means of hinges 'l which are adapted to swing upon the hangers 5.
Each hanger may comprise a length of resilient metal consisting of a main body portion 8 having return-bent ends 8 extending inwardly for a limited portion of the length of the hanger. The ends of the return-bent portions may be offset as shown at I0 in Fig. l, and are preferably bent inwardly toward the main body portion 8 so that (ci. 12g-16.7)
the ends of the return bends are parallel to the main body portion 8, as shown best at I I in Fig. 1.
The hinge I is preferably formed of `sheet metal and comprises essentially a sheet metal blank bent transversely intermediate its length f 6 to provide an eyelet I2 which, in use, is engageable with the ends Il of the hanger 5. In forming the eyelet I2 the faces of the blank on each side of the eyelet are disposed Vparallel to each other to form faces I3 and Ill. The axis of the eyelet is preferably offset from the plan-e of the faces I3 and I4 so that when holding cards 6 in a frame the cards will lie atly above the plane of the hangers 5. Tangs or lugs l5 are formed at the lower end of the face I3 and are adapted 15 to engage in pre-formed openings in the card 6.
As a feature of my invention an envelope or sleeve I6 is adapted to be mounted upon each of" the upper corners of the card 6, said sleeve or envelope comprising essentially a blank of rela- 0 tively tough sheet material such as Celluloid, relatively heavy Cellophane, relatively light sheet metal or tough fibrous material. The blank Iiiv is folded along its aXis of symmetry to form two oppositely disposed faces Il and I8, the upper edges of which are straight and are disposed sub'- stantially perpendicular to the line of fold I9. The lower edges of each of the faces are curved, as indicated at 20 in Fig. 3. Of course, in forming the envelopes the blanks will be folded oppositely for the right and left hand corners.
In mounting the sleeves or envelopes I6 upon .the card corners, the upper edges Il and I8 will be disposed in alignment with the upper edge of the card and the fold I9 will embrace the side edge of the card. The sleeve or envelope may be provided with apertures 2l for the reception of the tangs I5 whereby said sleeves will be secured to the card by means of the hinges l, or said sleeves may be riveted or stapled to the cards.' 40
A sheath 22 is carried at the lower edge of the `card 6, said sheath preferably comprising a transparent material such as Celluloid or the like. Of course, any of the materials specified in conjunction with the corner sleeves I6 may be used in the construction of the sheath 22. The sheath 22 comprises an elongated blank which is folded longitudinally along the line 23, Fig. '7, to dispose facesy 24 and 25 opposite each other. The upper edge of the face 25 is preferably reverse folded, as shown at 26 in Fig. 7, to impart rigidity to the sheath. The face 2li is unfolded at its upper edge. The sheath 22 is mounted upon the lower edge of card 6 with the faces 24 and 25 embracing opposite faces of the card and the bottorn edge of the card disposed in fold 23. Staples 21 secure the ends of sheath 22 to card 6, said staples only passing through face 24 of the sheath. A staple 28 fastens the central portion of face 24 to the central portion of card 6.
Although I have shown and described a sheath secured at the lower edge of the carrier card 6 by means of staples, it is to be understood that any type of similar sheath may be employed and any suitable type of fastening means therefor is contemplated.
As has been hereinbefore described, the card 6 is intended to primarily function simply as a carrier card upon which data-bearing card 29 and 30 are removably mounted. The card 36 y,comprises a simple rectangular card approxibeneath the curved edge 20 of the sleeves I5,
bringing the side edges of said corners adjacent fold I9 and the top edges thereof adjacent tangs I 5. D1 this manner card 3l! may be mounted and retained upon one side of the carrier card, and when desired can be easily removed therefrom.
Card 29 is carried upon the opposite side of card in a similar manner. However, to insert the lower edge of card 29 between the face 24 of sheath 22 and the face of card I5, provision is made for staples 2l and 28. Accordingly the lower corners of card 29 are notched, as shown at 3! and 32 in Fig. 5, and a central notch 33 is also provided. When card 29 is inserted behind the face 24 of sheath 22, the notches 3l, 33 and 32 register with staples 2l, 28 and 21 respectively, and permit the lower edge of card 29 to be disposed adjacent fold 23. The upper corners of card 2Q are positioned beneath sleeves I6 in a Amanner similar to the. positioning of the respecjtive corners of card 30.
reinforcing or protective agents for the most vulnerable portions of the card 6, that is, the corners and lower exposed edge. Further, the sleeve I 6, when hinges I are mounted, as described, prevent the tangs I5 from tearing the carrier card.
I claim as my invention:
1. A sleeve for receiving an upper corner of a data-bearing card, in combination with a relatively lat carrier card having defining edges, and hingesv secured to said carrier card, the said sleeve comprising sheet material disposed parallel to one face of the carrier card adjacent an upper corner thereof and retained by one of said hinges thereupon to form an individual pocket adjacent said corner and to aid in holding said data-bearing card and said carrier card in plane-parallel relationship. 2. A sleeve for receiving an upper corner of a data-bearing card, in combination with a relatively flat carrier card having defining edges, and hinges secured to said carrier card, the said sleeve comprising folded sheet material disposed parallel to and overlying the faces of the carrier card adjacent an upper corner thereof and underlying and retained by one of said hinges thereupon to form an individual pocket adjacent said corner and to aid in holding said data-bearing card and said carrier card in plane-parallel relationship.
3. A sleeve for receiving an upper corner of a data-bearing card, in combination with a relatively flat carrier card having defining edges, and hinges secured to said carrier card by means of lugs extending into pre-formed openings in the card, the said sleeve: comprising a blank of sheet material folded along its axis of symmetry to form oppositely disposed faces disposed parallel to and overlying the faces oi the carrier card adjacent an upper corner thereof and provided with openings registering with the said opemngsin the carrier card and retained thereon by one of said hinges and the lugs thereof to form an individual pocket adjacent said corner and to aid in holding said data-bearing card and said carrier card in plane-parallel relationship.
