LOOSE LEAF MEMORANDUM PAD Filed Sept. 8, 1933 3 nventor aldwe ll Patented Aug. 21, 1934 PATENT OFFICE LOOSE LEAF MEMORANDUM PAD Lewis E. Caldwell, Omaha, Nebr.
Application September 8, 1933, Serial No. 688,641
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a loose leaf memorandum pad for use in connection with loose leaf books of various kinds and found to be of particular advantage for loose leaf sales books.
The printed leaves showing prices and kinds of goods are not permanently bound for the reason that changes may be made, certain former leaves being removed and new leaves substituted, and therefore loose leaf holders are employed, the detachable leaves having apertures'or perforations receiving the fasteners, such as the conventional split-ring holders attached to a cover.
The object of the invention is to provide a memorandum-pad of such construction that it may be held ready for use in the cover and held at the side of the printed leaves, the pad being provided with an apertured supporting base for a detachable mounting on the fastening elements of the cover the same as the mounting of the loose :printed leaves.
Another object is to provide a memorandum pad having such a mounting that it will not become accidentally lost from the printed leaves with which it is associated, and will at all times be disposed convenient for use closely adjacent to the printed leaves so that the items thereon may be readily referred to.
The invention includes a pad of paper sheets provided with a base, said base having a part operating as a holder projecting outwardly of the plane of the pad and provided with apertures or other fastening elements adapted to co-operate with the fastening elements of a cover or lids of a loose leaf holder; and with the foregoing objects view the invention presents a new and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as shown in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that changes may be made in form,
size, proportion and minor details, said changes being within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing, Fig. l is a plan view showing a loose leaf holder, apertured loose leaves detachably held therein by the ring-holders of the cover, and showing the memorandum pad mounted on the ring-holders.
ticular description, the invention is shown and described in connection with a holder 4 for loose leaves 5, each leaf being provided with apertures 6 for receiving ring-holders 7 which are secured .to the cover 4.
The parts thus mentioned are those in general use for loose leaf ledgers, note-books and loose leaf sales books or holders. In some instances a pair of lids (not shown) have been used and substituted for the cover 4. The present invention, however, is adapted to be used in connection with any of the holders generally used and having fastening elements for detachably securing loose leaves therein.
The invention consists of a pad or body portion 8 of paper sheets provided at one of their edges with a binder element 9, and preferably having a line of perforations 10 adjacent to the binder, the bottom of the pad 8 being provided with a base supporting-plate 11 having a part 12 extending laterally from the pad provided with apertures 13 for receiving the ring-holders 7, the corners of the base preferably being cut to a curved form as indicated at 14.
The pad is preferably of rectangular form, corresponding to the outline of the loose leaves 5. While I have shown a binder 9 disposed at the side of the pad opposite to the extension 12 of the base 11, this is not important, and said binder may be disposed to connect the leaves or sheets of the pad 8 at any part thereof except the edge adjacent to the extension 12 of the base-support.
It will be appreciated that the device will be of great advantage in recording orders for goods referred to or taken from the printed leaves 5, or for recording any items relating to the matter of sales of the goods, for the reason that the pad is closely adjacent to the loose printed leaves, and any liability of loss of the record will be reduced to a minimum as compared with records kept separately from the sales sheets in the holder.
It will be understood that the curvature of the corners indicated at 14 is an advantage so that they will not interfere in the movements of the pad when swinging it to operative position. ready for recording.
By referring to Figs. 2 and 3 it Will be seen that the pad and base supporting-plate at one of their side edges are disposed in the same plane, and that the plate at its opposite side extends beyond the side edge of the pad to provide the line of apertures 13 in said plate, this being an important feature of the invention so that the pad will be disposed remote from the ring-fasteners.
I claim as my invention,-
1. In a pad for a loose leaf holder having ringholders disposed in alignment, a base supportingplate having a straight-edge, a pad of sheets disposed upon and secured to said plate and having a straight-edge disposed in the plane of the proximately rectangular in plan, a pad approximately rectangular in plan disposed with a sideedge in the plane of an edge of said plate and secured thereto, said plate having a part extending laterally from the pad and provided with apertures receiving said ring-holders.
