MEMORANDUM CALENDAR 0R THE LIKE Filed May 19, 1936 Patented Nov. 17, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE mesne assignments,
to The vOhio Art 00.,
Bryan, Ohio, a' corporation of Ohio Application May 19, 1936, Serial No. 80,521 sciaims. 7 (01; 40-119) An object of my invention is to provide a memorandum calendar or'the-likeof simple, durable and inexpensive construction A further object isto providean improvement in memorandum calendars or the like of the type employing a plurality ofsheets, each of which may be blank or may havecalendardata thereon, the used sheetsof whichare to be preserved.
Still a further object is to-provide a memoran- 10 dum calendar or the like having a base sheet and means on-the-backthereof for retaining the used sheets in position, the base sheet having. a slot for the: used sheetsto-be extended through, and a retainer normally retain-ing them in position against return through said slot to'the front of the base sheet.
Another object is to provide the retainer so associated with the slot that it will guide the sheets to their retained position without any wrinkling or buckling thereof;
With these and other'objects-in view,.my invention consists in 'the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplatedare at- 5 tain'ed, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective'view ofa memorandum calendar or the like embodying my inven- 30 tion.
. Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
Figure 3' is an enlarged-sectional view on the line 3--3-of Figure 2.
:Figure' 4 is a rear perspective view of a'retainer 35 normally mounted on the backof a base sheet but removed from the basesheet in this'fig'ure.
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 5--5'of Figure 2; and v I Figure 6 is a further enlarged sectional view of 4,0 the base sheet and retainer contained withinthe circleliofFigure 3.
On the accompanying drawing, I have used the reference numeral H] to indicate a base'sheet. This is preferably. formed of heavy cardboardror 45 the like, and as shownispreferably formed-with roundedcorners to add-to the attractive appearance of the device.
On the front face-of th'e base. sheet l0 I mount a calendar or other memorandum pad composed 50 of *a pIuraIity-Of sheets of flexible paper [2. The base sheet I0 is provided with a transverse slot l4 immediately above the pad of sheets l2, and this slot is of slightly greater length than the width of the sheets to facilitate insertion of the free 55 ends of the sheets therethrough, as illustrated on the drawing. I The sheets 12 are fastened together and to the base sheet by suitable means, such as staples orthe like I6.
Fixed-to theback of the base sheet If) I provide a retaine'r A formed of a single. piece of sheet metal or the like. The-retainer A comprises a back wall Zilspaced rearwardly fromthe base sheet ID as clearly illustratedinFigu-re 5; The sheet further includes side fianges- 22 terminating in hooked flanges 24. The hooked flanges 24 frictionally grip the side margins of the base H! for mounting the retainer'in position, and thereby assembling the retainer A relative to the base sheet It].
The retainer A is further provided with a top flange 26, which is preferably curved and termii mates in a marginal flange 28. The flange 26 extends into theslot l4 and preferably through it, as shown in Figure 6, with the margmal flange 28zalong its upper edge overlapping the front upper edge of the slot l4.
The retainer A has a leaf retainer element 30 whichis formed of the back 20 and bent toward the base sheet 10 so that it resiliently engages theleaves I2 inserted through the slot I4, as shown in Figure 3:- Theretainer element 30 thereby provides an effective means to retain the sheets l2 against returning through the-slot It to the, front of the base sheet In.
After a sheet I2 is used, it is lifted at its free end and inserted through'the slot I4, a greater portion of-the sheet then being behind the base sheet l0 and the sheet l2 being retainedby the retainerelement 30. Thefla'nges 22 and the back 20 laterally. enclose or extend across the sheets l2 throughout their width." The fiange 26 extending through the slot l4 serves as an effective guide to guide the enteringedge of the sheet l2 from its horizontally inserted position to a vertically retained positioned relative to the retainer A. The flange. 28 prevents any possibility of the free 40 edge of the" sheet l2-engaging the upper terminal edge of the retaine'rA, and likewise serves to reinforce the upper edge of the slot I4 and strengthen the portion of the base sheet ll] above the slot therein.
The base sheet I0 may be-provided'if desired ithv an eyelet 32for the purpose of hanging it on a nail or other support.
The device is also adaptable for lying at a slightly-inclined'position on-a desk toplor the like. From the foregoing description it is obvious that I have provided a retainer for the type of memorandum that is mounted on a base having a slot to receive the used sheets, and the retainer is comparatively simple to cut and form,
as well as assembled relative to the base sheet. It operates effectively as a retainer without having to use a prohibitive amount of sheet metal for each memorandum.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my device without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
