Description

Jan. 31, 1967 E. USOSKIN LOOSE-LEAF DISPLAY DEVICE Original Filed Aug. 2, 1961 INVENTOR. Yaw 7Z0 UJGSHY/V United States Patent 3,301,254 LGOSE-LEAF DISPLAY DEVICE Edward Usosirin, deceased, late of West Deal, Ni, by
Robert N. Usoskin, executor, 111 E. 80th St, New
York, NE. 10021 Continuation of application Ser. No. 128,813, Aug. 2, 1961. This application Apr. 7, 1964, Ser. No. 358,683
2 Claims. (Cl. 129-21) The present application is a continuation application of application Serial No. 128,813, filed August 2, 1961, entitled Loose-Leaf Display Device and now abandoned.
This invention relates to staples made of lengths of wire, designed to form a hook having an open space on the front or face of the pads, for easy removal of individual sheets, without ripping the paper or otherwise defacing the pads.
The object of my invention is to provide a means of stapling loose-leaf coupons or certificates to cardboard, or other advertising devices, so that patrons in markets or stores, where coupons are offered free to customers, may remove them, one .or more at a time, without tearing the edges or defacing the pads with left-over-stubs as occurs with conventional type staples.
The main object of my invention is to provide a staple having no part of the wire obstructing or overlapping the front and edges of the pad, so that it is not necessary to tear the sheets off, as with all present staples, but merely to lift the unmultilated sheets up-and-oif, over the hooked opening.
It is further the object of this invention to provide an attaching pad staple or hook, which retains its firm grip to the supporting panel, regardless of how many sheets or coupons have been taken off.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a display card made in accordance with the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of certain parts of the assembly shown in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3a is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIGURE 2 before the stapling operation is completed;
FIGURE 3b is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIGURE 2 after the stapling operation is completed;
FIGURE 4 is a view similar to FIGURE 1, illustrating the manner in which the pages are removed; and
FIGURE 5 is a plan view of a page forming a part of the present invention, after the stapling operation has been completed and removed from the pad without any tearing of edges.
Referring now to the drawing, a display card assembly made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a main mounting panel.
A pad of pages 22 is supported upon the main panel 12 by means of two fasteners 16, such as staples, each having one leg 18 clenched over the front side of the panel 12, and another end 20 extending forwardly outwardly from the plane of the main panel and defining an upwardly opening hooked portion 20.
It will thus be recognized that the one leg 18 of each fastener 16 secures the fastener upon the main mounting panel 12, whereas the other hooked end 20 thereof provides an open type support which will facilitate the removal of individual pages 22 without tearing the pages or the panel.
It will thus be appreciated that in accordance with the present invention, the various pages may be removed,
' JEROME SCHNALL,
3,30L2fi4 Fatented Jan. 31, 1967 completely, thus avoiding the accumulation of ragged and unattractive stubs upon the main panel 12, as would otherwise take place with different types .of staples.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.
What I claim is:
1. A display device comprising, in combination,
a supporting panel having a front surface and a rear surface;
a plurality of individual sheets superposed on the front surface of said supporting panel; and
fastening means removably supporting said plurality of sheet on the front surface of said supporting panel, said fastening means comprising at least one staple having a pair of spaced legs joined by an intermediate portion, the intermediate portion of said staple being positioned in juxtaposition with the rear surface of said supporting panel, one of the legs of said staple extending through said panel in clenched position with the front surface of said panel to secure said staple in position, and the other of the legs of said staple extending through said panel and said sheets and being bent into an open book for retaining said sheets in position but permitting the same to be removed from said hook without tearing, said other leg of said staple being first bent at substantially right angles to itself and extending toward said one leg of said staple and being second bent transverse to itself and extending toward said supporting panel and ending at a point spaced from said supporting panel.
2. A display device comprising, in combination,
a supporting panel having a front surface and a rear surface;
a plurality of individual sheets superposed on the front surface of said supporting panel; and
fastening means removably supporting said plurality of sheets on the front surface of said supporting panel, said fastening means comprising at least one staple having a pair of spaced legs joined by an intermediate portion, the intermediate portion of said staple being positioned substantially vertically in juxtaposition with the rear surface of said supporting panel, the upper one of the legs of said staple extending through said panel in clenched position with the front surface of said panel to secure said staple in position, and the lower one of the legs of said staple extending through said panel and said sheets and being bent into an open hook for retaining said sheets in position but permitting the same to be removed from said hook Without tearing, said lower one .of the legs of said staple being first bent at substantially right angles to itself and extending upward and being second bent transverse to itself and extending toward said supporting panel and ending at a point spaced from said supporting panel.
