Description
Jan. 19, 1932. w, MCGONIGLE 1,841,903
COMBINED MAP, MEMORANDUM, AND MATCH HOLDER Filed March 16, 19 51 7 7 @I T 7 a Inventor Wfl/V gd/i/i/c Patented Jan. 19, 1932 UNITED STATES WILLIAM A. MCGONIGLE, F CANISTEO, NEW YORK COMBINED MAP, MEMORANDUM, AND MATCH HOLDER Application filed March 16, 1931. Serial No. 523,050.
This invention relates to a combined map, memorandum and match holder and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodying a novel construction and arrangement for supporting a map, a memorandum and a book of matches in a manner to permit ready reference or access to be conveniently had thereto when desired.
Other objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
The foregoing objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a View in side elevation of the device.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the combination holder comprises an elongated, flat, metallic plate 1 having a right angularly disposed flange 2 on its lower end and a downturned hook 3 on its upper end. The hook 3 is disposed above the flange 2.
" A resilient, metallic clamp 4: is mounted, as
at 5, on the side of the plate 1 which is opposite the side thereof from which the hook 3 and the flange 2 extend, said clamp at extend- 1 ing above the upper end of the plate 4 and terminating in a curved free end portion 6-.
Vertically spaced pairs of oppositely disposed, opposed retaining tongues 7 are struck out from the plate 1 below the clamp 4:. Also mounted on the plate 1 at one side thereof and adjacent the lower end of said plate is a resilient arm 8 which extends transversely of the plate above the flange 2.
In use, the front flap of a book of matches is torn ofl or folded on the back of said book of matches after which the book may be inserted between the upper portion of the plate 1 and the clamp at. As will be obvious, the clamp 4 will retain the match book in position. A memorandum book or pad may be mounted on the forward side of the plate 1 by inserting the upper end thereof under the hook 3 and engaging the lower end for reston the flange 2. The resilient arm 8 is engaged over the memorandum pad to retain the same in engagement with the flange 2. Then, a map may be mounted on the rear side of the plate 1 beneath the clamp i by inserting the marginal portions of said map beneath the tongues 7.
It is believed that the many advantages of a device constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the de- 7 tails of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is A device of the character described comprising an elongated, fiat plate, a right angularly disposed flange on one end of .the plate, a substantially reversely directed hook on the other end of the plate, and a resilient clamping arm mounted on one edge of the plate and extending transversely thereacross adjacent the flange and above said flange.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM A. MoGONIGLE.
