2 Claims. (Cl. 281-16) This invention relates to pads and more particularly to pads of the memorandum type having sections or leaves which may be detached from the main body of the pad.

An object of the invention is to provide a pad of the above described type with means enabling the user of the pad to designate any or all of the individual sections or leaves with a prechosen signal or marker, so that he may determine at a glance that a certain note on a certain section or leaf requires immediate attention or refers to a certain department, etc.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pad of the above described type, wherein the sections or leaves may be easily detached from the pad.

Another object of the invention is to provide a memorandum pad which may be readily manufactured at low costs.

Still another object of the invention is to improve on the art of memorandum pads as now customarily made.

Other objects and structural details of the invention will be apparent from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein:

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the drawings, generally indicates a package of superimposed sheets, preferably made of paper, each sheet comprising an end portion or stub 12 and a series of leaves 14 separated from each other by slits 16.

A line of perforations 18 is arranged between each leaf 14 and the adjacent end portion 12. Each slit 16 between adjacent leaves 14 extends from the edge of the sheet to the perforation 18 and ends at the intersection with the latter.

An upper reinforcing sheet 20, preferably made of cardboard, is placed on top of the end portion 12 of the uppermost sheet of the pad. A lower reinforcing sheet 22, preferably made of cardboard, is placed below the lowermost sheet of the pad of sheets. In the embodiment shown in the drawings this lower reinforcing sheet 22 covers the entire surface of the lowermost sheet of the pad, while the upper reinforcing sheet is of substantially the same width as the stub or end portion 12 and, thus, covers only the upper surface of the latter.

As shown in the drawings, a strip of suitable material, for example of a plastic material, is placed on top of the upper reinforcing sheet 20. The strip 30 is of the same length as the reinforcing sheet 20, but is somewhat wider, so that it projects towards the front of the pad to a slight extent. Preferably the rear portion of the strip 30 is secured to the upper surface of the reinforcing sheet 20 by an adhesive.

A binder 24, preferably made of a fabric, embraces a part of said strip 30, the reinforcing

20, 22 and end portions 12 of the pad of sheets placed between said reinforcing sheets. The greater portion of the upper part of the binder 24 is connected in any suitable manner, for example by a glue, with the upper surface of the strip 30, leaving a pocket 32 at the front.

As shown in Fig. 3, the entire surface of the binder 24 is cemented to the strip 30 and the latter to the upper reinforcing sheet 20 at the end of the pad, whereby said pocket 32 is closed. Of course the pocket 32 is closed at the opposite end of the'pad in the same manner. The binder 24 is also connected with the rear edges of the upper reinforcing sheet 20 and the end portions 12 and with the lower reinforcing sheet 22 by a glue.

A series of signals or markers 34 may be detachably and/or slidably engaged with the free end of the strip 30, a portion of said signals or markers extending into the pocket 32. Said signals or markers 34 may have different colors or may be of different design. They may be selectively placed in register with leaves 14 so as to indicate to the user of the pad that a certain note, which may be written on a certain leaf, requires immediate attention or refers to a certain department or refers to a certain individual and so on.

According to the embodiment shown, the unit or multiple pad comprises a series of individual pads, each formed by leaves 14 of superimposed sheets, which pads are separated from each other by slits 16 and are connected, by means of perforations 18, with a common stub portion 12 held together by the binder 24.

However the indicating device comprising the strip 30 and the signals 34 movably mounted thereon may also be used in combination with a pad, wherein the various sections thereof are connected by perforations, the latter replacing the slits 16 shown in the drawings.

The memorandum pad 10 according to the invention may be used as follows:

For example, notes are made on a leaf 14 in register with a signal 34 indicating the department or an individual to whom such a note should refer. After having used one or the other of the leaves 14 for writing, the leaf may be gripped by hand and readily detached from the adjacent end portion 12. It is only necessary to tear the perforation as the leaf is already separated from the adjacent leaf or leaves owing to the slit or slits 16 provided for between the leaves.

I have described a preferred embodiment of my invention, but it is understood that this disclosure is for the purpose of illustration and that various omissions or changes in shape, proportion and arrangement of parts, as well as the substitution of equivalent elements for those herein shown and described may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.

This application is a continuation-in-part application of my co-pending patent application Serial No. 230,635 filed on June 8, 1951 for A Pad of Memorandum Type, now abandoned.

What I claim is:

l.
