Application lecl August 27,' 1920. Serial No. 406,266.
"State of New York, have invented a' new and Improved Calendar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. s It is well appreciated that numerous cal` endars arel put upon the market in the form of a memorandum pad. These calendars usually include a leaf for each day, week or month, and have printed matter or other identifying marks aixed to their leaves, a blank space being left, which blank space serves in the' nature of a memorandum space for noting all appointments, expenses, etc,
Further, subsequent to the filling of one leaf corresponding to a day, week or month, it has been customary to sever the same from the body of the calendar so that no permanent record of past events is provided by a' device of this nature. Y
With this in view, I have constructed a device in the nature of a calendar, which is not necessarily limited to this adaptation, and in which a plurality of memorandum spaces are provided, the leaves forming these memorandum spaces being capable of' being disposed in such a manner that it is unnecessary to sever them from the pad of the calendar so that a permanent record is provided.
A further object of my invention is thev construction of a device of this nature which shall not alone permit the keeping of a permanent record, but which shall be constructed in such a manner as to provide means permitting of the disposition Ofcompleted leaves, -so that the neat appearance of the device as a whole wil-l be preserved, and
Athe completed leaves will Abe kept in a position at'which theyv are not liable to accumulate dust or other defacing marks.
Reference is had to the attached sheet of drawings as .illustrating one practical embodiment -of my inventlon, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a calendar constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing the leaves forming a part of the same in their normal position.
Fi 2 is a sectional side view taken along the line 2-'2 of Fig. l', and
Fig. 3 is a simllar sectional view, but showing certain of the leaves vof the calendar or pad moved to the position at which they surface o .that one of the sheets of the pad vform a part of the permanent record to be provided by means of my invention.
In these views the reference numeral 5 indicates any suitable type of backing sheet, to which is affixed by any suitable securing means, such as staples 6, a pad of leaves 7,
which leaves, as has been shown in Fig. 1
may conveniently bear printing upon theirv faces, identifying the individual days in the Vmonth, Iand providing blank spaces for memoranda to the side thereof.
Contrary to the conventional construction which would require that each ofthe leaves upon being completed, would be either severed from the pad 7 or pinned in a recessedportion so as to relieve the underlying sheet, provide a slot S'through the bodyv of the backing sheet 5 and preferably parallel to the upper edge of the pad 7.
t By this construction', upon a leaf being completely filled in the same may be folded backthrough the slot 8, as .has been illustrated in Fig. 3, thus relieving the underlying sheet, and at the same time rendering it unnecessary to. sever the' completed sheet or to pin the same to the backing sheet 5 so that a careless appearance is presented.
It will be understood that the leaves of the pad 7 if extending flush -against the rear face of the backing plate 5 would, upon sulficient leavesfliaving accumulated, cause the backing late 5 to not lie parallel tothe f the wall to which it was affixed, and with this in view the backing'sheet is formed with a further cut-out portion 9 exresponding to approximately one half of the length of one of the sheets of the pad 7, it being noted however'that the forward face of the sheet 5 is formed with a recessed portion 10 extending throughout the balance of the length of one of these sheets.
By this construction it will be ap reciated passed through the opening9 subsequent to its-having been threadedl through the slot 8, and by Virtue of the'fact that the lowermost portion of the leaves will be in a position intermediate the rearmost leaf of-the pad 7 and the forward face of the recessed portion 10, the `completed leaves will be remay bel Y p tending through a portion of this sheet corj tained\in the position indicated in Fig. 3.
At this position the completed leaves will be at all times held so that they willnot act as a ydetrimental factor to the appearance of the -calendar `at thevsame time being pro-V teeted from injury and the aetion of dust, etc
Obviously numerous modieations of structure might readily be resorted to with- 5 out in the least departlng from the spirit of my invention, whiehl claim as A pad,l comprising a backing having a transverse slot a short distance from its' upper end, an opening below and adjacent 1 0 to the slot, and a recess in its yfront face, vsaid recess extending from the lower edge of the opening to *within a short distance of the bottom of backing, and a plurality of super- 'and then through the opening to lie in recess lin theA front face ofthe backln vJOHNAUGUST CHR SANDER.
