RECORD PORTFOLIO.
Application filed July 23, 1928. Serial No. 124,369.
This invention relates to a convenient portfolio for the purpose of holding records, particularly such as are intended for the use of teachers in daily work in the school room.
,ient and compact holder for retaining such Figure 1.
records and preventing their loss. In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan viewing showing the portfolio open and having record books and cards held in place.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 29 of Figure 3 is a section on the line 83 of Figure 1.
Figure his a section on the line 1-1 of Figure 1.
Figure is a perspective view of a part of the portfolio in folded form. I
This portfolio may be made from various materials, such as leather, cloth, or substitutes therefor, and in the embodiment illustrated consists of three main sections A, B, and C. The sections A and B are connected by a narrow portion 1, which is somewhat more flexible than the portfolio sections proper, and the sections A and C are connected by a similar narrow section 2. These sections 1 and 2 as shown in Figure 5 form the edges of the portfolio when the sections are folded and fastened together.
The sectionB carries one element 3 of a snap fastener or similar device, and the section C carries the other element 4 of the fastening device. When the portfolio is to be folded, section B is folded over on section A and section C folds over on the outside of section B as shown in Figure 5.
Fastened to the inside of section B is a strip 5 which is folded over in a return strip 6 to form a pocket, both ends of which are closed but both sides of which are open.
' This pocket is designed toreceive the back cover 7 of a book, memorandum pad, or the like 8, which is. inserted between the parts 5 and 6 thereby holding the book or pad in position on the inside face of section B of the portfolio. The section 5 is extended outside of the section 6 to a point not far from the upper end of the portfolio as ludicated at 9, the outer edges of which may be folded about the edges of the strip 6 and attached thereto. This forms a pocket for the insertion of cards ormemoranda as de sired.
To the inside of the section A is aflixed the part 10of a similar folding device having an upper member 11. These members are attached together at the ends but are open at the sides, thus forming a pocket between which may be inserted the front cover 12 of a book or memorandum pad 13. Strips 14 and 15 as shown in Figures 1 and 41-, are
attached to the ends of the members 10 and 11 and extend inwardly a short distance outside of the member 11, thus forming short end pockets in which may be inserted the ends ofcards 16 or similar memoramla. pencil holding pocket 17 may be attached at any desired point, but preferably as indicated at the left hand edge of the member A.
It will be obviousthat two record books can be readily carried by the portfolio and that cards may be inserted in the pocket The I carrying the various desired records from place to place. The record books or cards can be readily removed at any time when it is desired to change the same or use them sepa arately from the portfolio. It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the pre 0136 arrangement of the sections or of the various details disclosed, but that the constrim tion can be modified in a wide degree without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention which is to be regarded as limited only by the scope of the appended claim.
We claim as our invention: A portfolio including a fiat section having a main pocket attached to the inner face thereof, said pocket being formed from a single strip of relatively stifi' material and folded to form resultant sideopenings for receiving a cover leaf of a book, and auxiliary pockets secured to the section adjacent the ends of the main pocket and overlying the latter to receive the ends of a card.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our names.
' CHESTER F. MILLER.
EDWIN A. TURNER.
