Description

Patented Nov. 3, 7 19 25.
NICK CHIVILY, or NEW YORK, 1v. Y.-
Pon'rro-mo.
T 0 aZZw/iom it may concern: a i
Be it known that I, NTCK CHIVILY, a citizen of Greece, residing at New York, 111
the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portfolios, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to a portfolio for receiving stationery, and more particularly to a portfolio of book shape formed with a plurality of offset pockets opening inwardly adjacent the hinge portion thereof and adapted to hold writing paper and en velopes, together with a pocket formed in the edge of said cover between said firstnamed pockets and said cover portion, and adapted to receive a blotting pad which acts as reinforcement for the cover, and provides a compact construction; the first-named pockets being formed with a plurality of looped straps for holding a memorandum.
book and. calendar, and said hinge portion being formed with a plurality of looped straps for retaining pens and pencils.
An object of the present invention is to produce a portfolio of convenient shape, and of compact construction which is adapted to receive all necessary stationery accessories.
Other and further objects will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the portfolio comprising the present invention in open, or unfolded position, showing the arrangement of accessories carried thereby.
Figure 2 is a cross-section view taken along the line 22 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the draw- 1ngs:--
The body of the portfolio comprises cover portions 1 and 2, and an intermediate transversely hinged portion 3. The ends of cover portions 1 and 2 are folded back along said cover portions as at 4 and 5 respectively, and terminate adjacent the hinge portion 3 thereby stiffening the said cover portions.
A continuous strip 9 is attached, through the medium of lining 10, to an inturned end of continuous strip 6, and between the inturned end of strip 6 and the edge of transverse-strip 9 is the inturned flap of a second transverse strip 11. The seam thus formed may be sewed or glued to hold the parts thereof in position. Bellows-like side pieces are provided as shown at 12 to close the Application filed July 14, 1924'. Serial N o.r725,844.
PATENT OFFICE.-
sides of the pockets, and the pocket formed A convenlent compartments, by weaving a strap, such as is shown at 13, through slits formed in the pocket members 9 and 11, or in any other convenient manner. As shown in Figure 1 of the drawing a frame 14, for receivlng a small picture, may be mounted on the transverse strip 11. I
The free portion 7 of continuous strip 6 .by transverse strip 11 may be divided into";
has fastened to the edge thereof transverse strips 15 and 16, the edge of strip 16 being inturned and attached to the edge of portion 7 by a binding strip as shown in Figure 2, thus defining a pocket opening along the edge of the cover and adapted to receive a blotter 8. g V I A plurality of looped straps are fastened upon the transverse strip 16 and are adapted to retain a memorandum book and calendar as shown.
The continuous strip 6 is formed with a plurality of parallel slits at the hinge portion 3 of the portfolio, and straps 17 and 18 are .woven theretlirough for retaining pencils and pens, the ends of said straps occupying the space between the hinge portion 3 of the portfolio and the superimposed portion of continuous strip 6. V
It is to be understood that the side edges of the members 7, 15, and 16 are closed to form pockets by attachment to the cover portion 2.
Having described the present'invention what is claimed is 1. A portfollo of book form comprising cover portions and a transverse hinge portion, the ends of said'cover portions being.
bent back and extending to a point adjacent said hinge to reinforce said cover portions,
a flexible lining superimposed upon said cover portions and hinge portion, the lining being fixed at one end to one said cover portion, the other end of said lining being free from said second cover portion, whereby a pocket is formed between said lining and said second cover portion, transverse strips attached to the ends of said lining to form pockets for the reception of stationery, said transverse strips being provided with a plurality of straps to receive stationery accessories.
2. A portfolio comprising a transversely hinged cover portion the ends of which are bent back upon said cover portion to ar proach each other and thereby reinforce said ends, a continnous' strip extending the length of said cover portion and attached thereto at one end, the said strip-being folded at its ends and having transverse strips attached thereto to form a plurality of pockets for receiving stationery, the nnreinforced hinge portion of the portfolio being provided with parallel slits, loop-forming straps threaded tlifoiigli said slits the ends of which teriiii'nate in the space between the cover por- "'tion and the continuous strip, said loops heand memorandum book, the pocket formed by the cover portion and continuous strip at one end of said cover portion being adapted to receive a blotter.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signa- 2O ture. t,
