UNITED ST TES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. HENSOHED, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
CIGAR-BOX LABEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.355,0l5, dated December 28, 1886.
Application filed October 23, 1886. Serial No. 216.991. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HENSCHEL, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Box Labels, of which the following is a Specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in the labels usually fastened to the inner side of the covers of cigar-boxes.
The object of my invention is to provide the cigar-box with a label in such a manner that the label has a better appearance when the box is opened and'is in such a position that it can be seen by the person examining the cigars without requiring the person to bend over the box.
The invention consists in a label or fancy card pasted at one edge to the inner side of the cigar-box cover near the hinged edge of said cover, to the back of which label a paper or pasteboard brace is fastened, the free end of which can be rested on the cigar-box cover to keep the label or card at an inclination. When the box is closed, the label is folded fiat against the inner side of the cover of the box.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigarbox provided with myimproved label. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the boX and label.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The label or picturecard A is pasted at its bottom edge to the inner surface of the cover B,a short distance from the hinged edge of said cover. pasteboard brace, O, is pasted near the upper To the back of the label a paperbr or free end of the-said label, the free end of said brace being adapted to rest on the inner surface of the cigar-box cover, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of holding the label raised and at an inclination to the inside of the cover. When the label is raised, as shown in the drawings, it is displayed more conspicuously than when resting flat on the inside of the cover. It is then an ornament to the showwindow in which the cigars are exposed to view, and when the cigar-box is empty thelabel can be torn off and used as an ornament or as apresent for children. WVhen the box is closed, the label rests flat against the inside of the cover of the cigar-box, and the brace is folded between the label and the cover.
Having thus described my invention, Iclai m as new andldesire to secure byLetters Patent 1. The combination, with a cigar-box, of a picture-card or label fastened at one edge to the inside of the cover, and provided with a brace, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with a cigar-box, of a picture-card or label fastened to swing on one 60 edge of the'inside of the cigar-box cover, and a folding brace fastened to the back of the label and resting on the inside of the cover, sub stantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my 65 invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
G. B. HENSCHEL.
