LOUIS EDWIN WALDECK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
DISPLAY-BOX.
vSpecification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 141i, 191V?.
Application filed February 7, 1916. Serial N o. 76,625.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, LOUIS EDWIN WAL- DECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson, in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display boxes and has for its object to devise means for holding the cover of the box in such position that printed matter upon the inside of the cover may be displayed.
By my invention I have provided a support which folds snugly against the box when the cover of the box is closed and which automatically assumes a position which enables it to support the cover when the cover is opened.
In order that my invention may be clearly understood, I shall proceed to describe the embodiment of it shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my display box with cover opened and supported in .display position.
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the box with the cover closed. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of a box with the cover in display position.
I provide a Ibox 1 which may be of any suitable material, as, for example, pasteboard. The box has a cover 2, which may 'be of the same material. One edge 9 of the cover is hinged to the box at 3. The support consists of the tie-section 4 which is hinged to the box at 5, and the brace-section 6 which is hinged to the tie-section at 7 7, and to the cover at 8 8. The support is preferably made of the same width as the box. The length of the 'brace-section from the line 8 8, at which it is hinged to the cover, to the line 7 7, where it is hinged to the tie-section, is equal to the distance from the line 8 8 to the edge 9 of the cover, which is hinged to the box. The length of the tie-section from 5 to 7 is equal to the distance from 5, where the tie-section is hinged to the box, to 3, where the cover is hinged to the box, plus the distance from 3 to the top of the cover. The result of making the dimensions of the sections of the Support as described is that when the cover of the box is closed the support folds itself closely against one side of the box and the top of the cover, as indicated in Fig. 2. The snug fit of the support against the box when the cover is thus closed and the fact that the support is the same width as the box and cover gives the box a neat and attractive appearance when closed and prevents the support from in any way interfering with the packing of the box for shipment.
When the cover is opened in the ordinary way, the support automatically Vopens up away from the cover` and lassumes the position show n in Figs. 1 and 3, in which itl serves to support the cover so that the matter on the inside of the cover may be easily seen.
Having thus described one embodiment of my invention and advantages obtained by my invention, I wish it clearly understood that said invention is not limited to the specific embodiment described.
1. The combination of a box, a cover hinged thereto, and a support having a rigid tie-section hinged to said 'box and arranged to fold against a side of said box and a rigid supporting section hinged to said tie-section and to said cover and arranged to fold against the top of said cover.
2. In combination with a box and a cover hinged thereto, a support comprising a tiesection hinged to said 'box below the line at which said cover is hinged to the box and of a length equal to the distance from the line at which the tie-section is hinged to the box'to the line at which the cover is hinged to the box plus the distance from said cover hinge line to the top of the cover, and a brace-section hinged to the outer end of said tie-section and to -said cover and of a length equal to the distance from the lme at which it is hinged to said cover to that edge of the said cover which is hinged to the box.
3. In combination with a box and a cover hinged thereto, .a support comprising a tie section hinged to said rbox below the line at which said cover is hinged to the box, and a brace section hinged to said cover and of a length equal to the distance from the line at which it is hinged to said cover to that box.
LOUIS EDWIN WALDECK.
